Pawtropolis is a doggie daycare and boarding facility located in Athens, GA. It offers a Self-service Doggie Spa, Pet Boutique, Kitty City, Grooming, Obedience and more. Profits of Pawtropolis hlep to support Helping Paws Rescue which is a non-profit animal rescue organization created by the owner of Pawtropolis. Dogs are rescued from situations where they would otherwise be put-to-sleep if they did not step in. The animals are vetted and cared for until they are able to join the customer pets in either the Doggie Daycare or Kitty City. This means that animals adopted from Helping Paws Rescue are highly social. Helping Paws Rescue is an all-breed rescue, though you will notice that we do alot with Dalmatian and Greyhound rescue. If you are interested in either of these breeds read their descriptions below and don't hesitate to contact us even if you don't see one listed as available.
Adopting a friend
Are you interested in adopting one of our pets? Email us at the address below and request an adoption application. We will review it and contact references (including one vet) and get back in touch with you within a few days. All cats must be adopted to indoor homes who sign an agreement stating they will never have them declawed. Dogs must go to a home that will let them be primarily indoors and promise never to make any permanent alterations to their appearance, such as tail docking. All pets will be up-to-date on their vaccinations and spayed or neutered before adoption. Keep in mind that we will not adopt to homes that have other pets that are not current on all vaccinations and are not spayed/neutered or that live completely outside. If you have had to give an animal away or had one pass away due to a freak accident (hit-by-car for example) we will need complete explanation along with ways you plan to ensure this will not happen again. We do require a homevisit for all adoptions. If you live out-of-state arrangements can be made with local rescuers to preform the homevisit on our behalf.
Interested in a Dalmatian
Dalmatians are wonderful dogs. They range in size between 40lbs-70lbs (though the standard weight doesn't exceed 55lbs, many rescue dals are larger.) These are dogs that do not make good outside dogs. They need to be a big part of the family. They are extremely loyal to their family and many of them will tend to be very protective when strangers approach. Some people may even call them aloof, because they would prefer to stay by their owner's side. Though my Tyler wants to greet everyone he meets. They tend to be clean dogs, avoiding mud-puddles, but be careful: They shed ALOT!!! Expect black pants to have white hair all-over. Dalmatians were bred to be independent confident dogs. Because of this many people call them stubborn and they are not used as often in obedience. However, Dals love to learn. They can excell in any exercises from obedience to agility to tracking. They need owners that are consistent and loving. Though they have an reputation of being hyper, a dal that is made part of the family and given normal exercise and obedience is quite mellow in the home. Dalmatians are wonderful pets and, of course, they are gorgeous!
Interested in a Greyhound
Greyhounds in rescue have been taken in off of the racing track. These dogs are bred for very high speeds in short distances. They can range in weight from 45lbs-80lbs (though the AKC standard weight has less variation.) Though they are the fastest animal on earth behind the cheetah, they are giant couch potatoes. Adopting a greyhound is a special experience. They are adults, but they are learning about the world just like a puppy would. They have known nothing but living in crates and racing. They are very used to handling and tend to do well with other dogs, children and people. It is common for them to be a bit reserved with new people but will bond like glue with their owner and family.
