News

NOVEMBER UPDATE FROM THE PRESIDENT We are getting very close to winding up yet another year. I cannot believe that 2009 is almost over. Our members continue to be extremely busy saving Yorkies. We have had many very nice donations sent this past month to help with the costs of care we are incurring with our rescue efforts. We have also received boxes of goodies to help our foster homes and dogs as the cold weather approaches. THANK YOU !!!! I hope this update finds our donors and supporters and their families healthy. My family and I have been incredibly ill with the viruses that have been sweeping the country and hope that we can soon get back on our feet. I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you that continue to support us in our mission of saving our beloved breed. Stay warm and healthy! Mary Sullenberger President UYR.

Who We Are

Mission Statement: To take in as many stray, abandoned or surrendered Yorkshire Terriers or Yorkshire Terrier mixes as possible, providing we have available and appropriate foster homes, and provide them with foster care, behavior screening, rehabilitation, health care, with the ultimate goal of placing them in loving forever homes To educate the public about the nature and behavior of the Yorkshire Terrier, and the duties inherent in being a responsible pet owner, which includes spaying and neutering all companion animals To help all who are interested in experiencing the joy of owning Yorkshire Terriers as canine companions United Yorkie Rescue, Inc. was founded on August 5, 2002, by a group of loyal and hard-working rescue friends. We consolidated our efforts and talents to form a family dedicated to the rescue and well-being of the Yorkshire Terrier. We have pledged to rescue as many Yorkies and Yorkie mixes in need as is logistically and physically possible. In addition, we are devoted to providing love, nourishment, rehabilitation, socialization, and "pawsome" forever homes!!

Adopting a friend

Please see our available homeless Yorkies and Yorkie-Wannabes on our website! Most questions regarding adopting from us can be found on our site. Adoption donations range from $100-$600, depending on the age and health of the dog. We are a 100% non-profit 501(c)(3) rescue group. The adoption donations for the young, healthier dogs help to defray the costs of treating the older, more medically-needy Yorkies. Feel free to email the foster mom or dad of the Yorkie in which you are interested (you can find their emails below their bios on our site). However, the best way to open the lines of communication is to complete an online adoption application on our website. This helps us get to know you better and assist you in finding your perfect match. Please note - EVERY field must be filled in for the application to be submitted correctly.

Come Visit Us!

All of UYR’s foster dogs are in member’s homes – because we are a national group, we do not have a shelter. Please be advised that at the present time UYR does not ship our foster dogs out of the state in which they are being fostered as we do not feel it is safe to ship a small yorkie in the belly of a plane. We do allow cabin travel with the new adopter carrying their Yorkie in an airline-approved carrier such as a Sherpa bag. We have more applicants than we have yorkies, so it is preferred to place the dog in the area in which it is rescued in order to avoid a long transport; however, if you are willing to arrange appropriate transportation or travel to pick up your new companion, that can certainly be arranged.
United Yorkie Rescue Florida

Various foster homes all throughout Florida!
We do not have a shelter location. All of our dogs are fostered in private homes. For that reason, we do not give out a telephone number or return requests for phone calls. If you would like additional information on any of our adoptable dogs, please go to www.UnitedYorkieRescue.org and see Frequently Asked Questions. If you have further questions, please email the foster mom listed below each dog. We are volunteers and try to get back to every inquiry as soon as possible. Please be patient. Thank you!
