Our Adoptable Pet List

HAPPY TAILS, Recently Adopted Pets

Our Featured Pet...

Our featured pet Caesar has been adopted. He is a beautiful short haired black and white cat. He is our local celebrity. His story was featured in the local paper and they also did a follow up story on his progress. He was found by our volunteer Colleen, with his collar completely embedded in his neck. You could barely see a tiny piece of the collar. The collar was put on him when he was a kitten. As he grew, his neck had grown around the collar, leaving him unable to eat or drink, and barely able to breathe. He was near death but we rushed him to the vet. The vet performed emergency surgery to remove the collar and repair the damage, but had little hope for his survival. Caesar surprised everyone by surviving and has thrived ever since. We are so thrilled that we were able to rescue him and find him a new loving home.

News

We had a good day at Sam's Club in New Port Richey on April 19 & 20. Katie and Lucy, our mascots are now being recognized by quite a few folks. The classic "Marmaduke" cartoon in the St Pete Times (Sun Feb 10 edition) featured Katie and Lucy in the last panel. Cartoonist Brad Anderson features real dogs in his "Dog-Gone Funny!" story at the end of his strip. Our Shelter gets a mention and Katie is featured carrying her donation basket to the delight of the humans. Both girls are drawn in their signature colorful bandanas. We were thrilled to be in a nationally syndicated classic comic strip. Our thanks and appreciation to the generous, dog-loving cartoonist Brad Anderson. Footnote to this story: Lisa Buie, a St Pete Times columnist wrote a wonderful piece about our celebrity girls getting in the "funny papers". Times photographer Brendan Fitterer added some great shots for the story featured on the front page of the Pasco Times on Feb 12. Thanks St Pete Times- we love you!

Who We Are

The Humane Society of Pasco County Inc., is a non profit organization that was founded in 1982. A small group of volunteers worked tirelessly to clear the property in rural West Pasco County Florida. Our cats and new puppies live in a small trailer that has undergone many renovations over the years. It is a bright, friendly place where the animals get a lot of love and attention. We also have a large fenced area with mature trees for the dogs. Each dog has an oversized kennel and gets to run and play daily. We have a group of dedicated volunteers to do many shelter jobs. Of course, the best job is playing with the animals! We are in the process of building a hurricane safe shelter. We also are planning a new building with more space and amenities for the animals.

Your contribution will help make our dream a reality. Keep us in mind when doing your estate planning. We can help with adding the Humane Society of Pasco to your bequests. Many people think that the National Humane Societies provide funds for all Humane Societies. This is not the case. We receive no money from the national Humane Societies or any Government Agency. Your donations are the only thing that keeps us going. This is true with most shelters. Please remember to donate to your local animal shelter. Generally, they need the money much more than the national associations do. Our only source of funding is from your donations. We've included a secure PayPal link below if you wish to make a donation with your credit card. Checks should be mailed directly to the shelter. Our mailing address is located at the bottom of this page. Your donations are also tax deductible. Thank You.

Become a Member of The Humane Society

You can also use the donation link above to become a member of the Humane Society of Pasco County. Membership is just $10 for individuals, and $25 for a family. Of course we are happy to accept larger donations too. As a member, you will receive our newsletter, which is printed twice a year. The newsletter will help keep you up to date on all the activities at our shelter and you membership donation will be helping us rescue even more needy animals. We also offer free memberships to anyone who would just like to receive our newsletter.

You can Help us With a Unique Fundraising Oppurtunity

We are having a gold drive to try to raise funds, so if you have any broken or unwanted Silver, Gold, Platinum or Coins, you can donate it to our shelter and get a great tax deduction. If you can't afford to donate, we will gladly buy it. The best news: We will pay you much more than you could get anywhere else. I know everyone says that, but in our case it's true. Call anyone and ask what they pay a gram for 14k gold. Of course, the price of gold fluctuates, but right now we are paying $14.20 a gram for 14k gold and 95% to 99% of melt for gold coins.

Our shelter is also the home of Animal Rescue of West Pasco, a wildlife rehab center. Many neglected and abandoned animals live with us along with our dogs and cats. We have Emus, Jimmy the donkey, Deer, Geese, giant Tortoises, Racoons, Parrots, Rabbits, Chickens and 10 horses. 2 of these horses are up for adoption. Bring the family for a tour. Kids and grownups alike will love it. ...

Adopting a friend

Our adoption fees are based on each animal's age, breed, and whether the animal has been spayed or neutered. All animals are current with their shots. Cat adoption fees are normally $35 to $45. Dog adoption fees are normally $45 to $100. We try to make sure all of our animals are neutered before being adopted. This isn't always possible however since we don't have a vet on staff. If the pet is not neutered there is a rebate available when the animal has been fixed. All animals adopted from our shelter must be neutered. Our goal is to find good forever homes for our animals!
