We are looking for foster homes for a number of dogs. If anyone would like to help out by taking one of our pups in for a little while until adopted, please contact Ginny at
Who We Are
Hands for Paws is a non-profit organization dedicated to ending the suffering of stray dogs (called satos by the locals) roaming Puerto Rico, desperately in need of medical attention, food and water, and a loving touch. We were originally created at Manos por Patas, which means Hands for Paws in Spanish, and operate under both names.
Our program involves providing sterilizations to the dogs as well as medical attention and vaccinations. We will broaden the program to provide free or low-cost spay and neuter services for all pets in Puerto Rico. We are also beginning a public awareness program that will involve radio and television spots to increase awareness about the cruelty imposed on these animals and will take programs into the schools to educate children about animal cruelty and ethical treatment of animals.
Adopting a friend
Since the dogs that we have available for adoption are rescues, we have a stringent adoption process. An adoption application must be filled out and we must meet with you in your home as well as the foster home (with the potential adoptive pet) at least once. We also require vet records for any current/recent pets. We have a $95 adoption fee to help defray the expenses of rescue. If the pet you adopt is not spayed/neutered, we also require a sterilization deposit of $150. As soon as proof of sterilization is provided, the deposit will be returned to you. You can email your interest in an available animal to firstname.lastname@example.org or call 561-459-7208
