Who We Are
God's Greyts Greyhound Group, Inc., a 501(c)(3), is a family-friendy adoption group dedicated to the placement of retired racing greyhounds into loving, qualifed and caring homes. Once out of the race kennel, all of our greyhounds are fostered in our homes before being available for adoption, so you are getting a dog that has already learned how to be a pet.
Our adoption fee is $225 and includes: spay or neuter, vaccines, heartworm check, dental cleaning, nail trim, meds for intestinal worms, first month's heartworm pill, new leash and collar set with a custom ID tag, new muzzle and a book on caring for an ex-racing greyhound.
Adopting a friend
If you’re thinking about fostering or adopting a greyhound, we here at God’s Greyts would like to tell you a little bit about how our “foster to adopt” program works.
We do not "stock" a huge number of greyhounds. We have several dogs in foster care that are mostly already spoken for. What we do is talk to each potential foster home/adopter to find out about their family dynamic and what they are looking for in personality and temperament of the dog. (We don't recommend choosing a greyhound by color). Then, we go to the track kennels and "shop" for what you want.... cat friendly, laid back, active, outgoing...whatever you want!
The dog then goes into one of our greyhound savvy foster homes until the next scheduled vet appt. where they will be spayed or neutered, have all their vaccines, heartworm test, dental cleaning and a nail trim. They go back into the grey expert home to recover from the surgery for a few days and then we bring them to your home and do a brief educational session with your family on caring for this unique breed.
Sometimes we will have dogs in foster care that are available and ready to be adopted, We’d be glad to tell you all about them and even arrange for a visit.
We provide a crate, bed, dog food, collar with ID tag and a leash, all free of charge to our foster homes. If you decide to adopt, you can purchase the crate if you wish for $75, which is less than you'd pay anywhere. We get a great "rescue" price from the factory that makes these awesome crates and we pass the savings on to our adopters. Just a note, if there is ever a hurricane and you need to evacuate your family to a shelter, you can only take your dog there if you have a crate for it. They do not provide crates and they don't allow uncrated dogs. These crates fold up and store easily in a narrow space in your garage or shed.
If you fall in love with your foster greyhound, you’ll have the first option to adopt, even if someone else is interested in your foster dog. If you are serious about adopting but don’t “connect” with the first or second foster, you can keep fostering different dogs until the “right” one comes along.
Our adoption fee is $225 and that is about half the cost of the retail price of the vet services...again, we get rescue pricing. We also provide a new special greyhound leash and a tag collar. We provide a personalized ID tag upon the dog being formally adopted, as greyhounds should NEVER go without ID. They run 40 MPH and if they ever get loose, it's crucial that they have their ID tag on. We order them with whatever information YOU want on them. We recommend having your cell phone number(s) on the tag.
Please be aware that greyhounds can NEVER be let "off leash" unless they are in a completely fenced in area. They must be kept as indoor pets, as they cannot tolerate extremes in temperature and could easily die of heat stroke. We insist upon these two conditions being met as stated in our adoption contract that you must agree upon by signing.
We have a brief handbook that we can email to you if you are interested in finding out more about this unique breed. Simply email us at godsgreyts@mac.com and request it, or go to our website at:
www.godsgreyts.com and download it from there.
If you’d like to submit an application to foster to adopt, please email us and we’ll send it to you right away.
Keep checking back to our website as we are just starting to build it.
Thanks for your interest in God’s Greyts!
Sincerely,
Carol Becker – President;

Sunday, January 31st - God's Greyts Greyhound Community Picnic
2-5 pm No RSVP needed...
7259 Hiawassee Oak Dr. Orlando FL 32818
All central Florida Greyhounds and their humans are invited to attend. Property is fenced and the greys can run around loose to their heart's content, while the humans enjoy a pot-luck picnic, games, Chinese auction, raffle and shopping for greyhound supplies.
For sale, we'll have Greyhound coats, dog beds, collars, leashes, dog toys, muzzles, T-shirts, jellies and preserves. We'll also have Frontline Plus (6 for $55, Advantix (6 for $55), Leba III ($35), all at prices lower than you can find anywhere on earth! Bring cash or your checkbook and stock up on these essential items. Your purchase will benefit the homeless hounds of God's Greyts, an IRS recognized 501(c)(3).
Only Greyhounds are allowed, (no other breed of dog), and your Greyhound must wear a muzzle, so be sure to bring one for each hound. If you don't have a muzzle you may purchase one at the event or possibly borrow an old one, if any are left. Any unmuzzled greys must be kept on leash. Also, you might want to bring a towel or two, so you can hose your dog off before going home. We do have a couple of small lakes on our property and the dogs do sometimes go in for a dip :-)
This event is Pot-Luck. If you want to eat with us, please bring a small covered dish or dessert to share and a serving spoon, if your dish requires one. Labeling your serving pieces with your name would be a good idea. There is a very small propane grill available. God's Greyts will be providing the beverages and paper/plastic ware. Also, bring lawn chairs and/or blankets to sit on while we chat and eat or watch the dogs play. Be sure to bring your sunscreen, sunglasses and your camera for some greyt action photo opportunities!
Please park in the street, not in the driveway and be extremely careful coming through the gate, making sure it is securely latched, so you don't let any dogs out. Come wearing something you don't mind getting "doggy" and wear sneakers or other sturdy shoes, not your most beautiful high heeled sandals!
This year, we are asking anyone who is able to bring a bag of Purina Dog Chow (in the green bag...any size!) as a donation and leave it in front of the garage on your way in. God's Greyts foster dogs will greytly appreciate this!!! Cash donations also greytfully accepted at the picnic or by paypal on our website.
Hope to see you!
