Compassionate Canines
Who We Are
We are interested in finding permanent homes for all kinds of animals that need companionship and love. We offer a place for people in the community to list animals they can't keep any longer because of changes in life's circumstances, and those who have taken in animals to foster in the hopes someone will fall in love and take care of them. We want to serve Central Florida to connect people and their pets. We are registered as a non-profit organization with the state of Florida.
Adopting a friend
If you are interested in adopting an animal on our website, please request an adoption application. Unfortunately, we can't respond to every request. It can take weeks or months to find the right homes for displaced animals. Please be patient with us. All our pets have descriptions and photos that are as accurate as possible. Please feel free to ask questions after you have applied. We may require a home/vet check. Adoption fees vary with each animal. Because of bounced checks, we ONLY accept cash, money order, paypal or cashiers check.
We want to hear from you whether you are looking for a new pet or have a pet to list. There are so many animals looking for homes out-of-state, that we ONLY place in Florida. We want to help you find your animal a new home where you can feel secure knowing he or she will have a good, secure future. We place our animals the same way.
We are always looking for caring people to adopt pets, foster homes and volunteers - please ask for an application if you have an interest. You must be over 18. Thank you for visiting our site. We are grateful for all the wonderful people we encounter. We would be grateful if you would like to make a monetary donation so that we can continue our work or help out by giving us the dog food we use, treats, rawhide bones or grooming assistance.
Requirements!
Please make sure all animals are spayed or neutered. If you would like your animal listed, it must be up-to-date on shots, including rabies and bordatella, heartworm and fecal negative and microchipped or tattooed.
There is a listing fee to assure owners meet all requirements and are serious about following Florida law and Petfinder rules. Rescue work is expensive and we hold our organization to very high standards. In order to adopt, you should live locally and have a fenced yard. If you live in an apartment or condo, please check with your landlord or homeowner's association to ensure dogs are allowed.
You must sign our contract for the continued care of your new pet. If you can no longer care for a pet you have adopted from us, you must contact and return the animal for future placement. No animals are to be given away, returned to the shelter or humane society under any circumstances. Thank you!
We want to thank the doctor and staff at the Altamonte Veterinary Clinic, the obedience trainers with Bark Busters and the owners of the Pet Pantry for their kind assistance with our rescue. Thanks to Casey, owner of Petland in Altamonte, for posting our adoptive pets and her kindness in directing folks to us who need assistance.
If you would like to apply for a pet, please find the application at www.compassionatecanines.net. Thank you!
We are in need of good foster homes for the dogs that we rescue. Please consider this volunteer opportunity.
If you would like to apply to be a foster parent for a small dog, please let us know! We would love to add to our small, but wonderful, foster care circle.
For foster parents who decide to adopt our animals, WE DO NOT OFFER REFUNDS UNLESS YOU HAVE VETERINARY PROOF WITHIN 48 HOURS THAT THE ANIMAL HAS A CONGENITAL DEFECT. You must return the dog to us if there are any problems whatsoever but rescue dogs are unpredictable and we suggest you take the dog to the vet immediately. Please be patient with your new pet as the animal adapts to you and your home. Many of them have been homeless, had to adjust to a shelter and a foster environment before coming to you. We DO NOT allow adoption as a gift. Animals are a long-term commitment and a personal decision. We are happy to help you find an animal that will make a good pet especially for you, whether it is in our care of that of another rescue.
We utilize foster homes to assure our pets are socialized and taken care of with a family before he/she goes home to you. If you are interested in becoming a part of our foster family, please email us. We are always looking for kind people who want to help unwanted animals. We are happy to guide you to a rescue or shelter in your area if you live out of state. The people behind rescue are caring, compassionate people who work very hard to save as many animals as possible.
10 Canine Commandments
1. My life is likely to last 10 to 15 years. Any separation from you will be painful to me. Remember that before you buy me.>
2. Give me time to understand what you want from me.>
3. Place your trust in me.>
4. Don't be angry with me for long, and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your entertainment, your friends. I have you.>
5. Talk to me sometimes. Even if I don't understand your words, I understand your voice when it's speaking to me.>
6. Be aware that however you treat me, I'll never forget it.>
7. Remember before you hit me, I have teeth that could easily crush the bones in your hand , but I choose not to bite you.>
8. Before you scold me for being uncooperative, obstinate or lazy, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not geting the right food, or I've been out in the sun too long, or my heart is getting old and weak.>
9. Take care of me when I get old. You too will grow old.>
10. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say: "I can't bear to watch it," or "Let it happen in my absence." Everything is easier for me if you are there.>
Remember that I love you!>
From our fellow rescuer Abby with A New Beginning:
I adopted your dog today
The one you left at the pound
The one you had for seven years
and no longer wanted around.
I adopted your dog today
Do you know he's lost weight?
Do you know he's scared and depressed
and has lost all faith?
I adopted your dog today.
he had fleas and a cold,
but don't worry none.
You've unburdened your load.
I adopted your dog today.
Were you having a baby or moving away?
Did you suddenly develop allergies or was
there no reason he couldn't stay?
I adopted your dog today.
he doesn't play or eat much
He's very depressed, but
he will learn again to trust.
I adopted your dog today.
And here he will stay.
He's found his forever home
and a warm bed on which to lay.
I adopted your dog today.
And I will give him all that he could need.
Patience, love, security, and understanding.
Hopefully he will forget your selfish deed.
