News

We, the Humane Society, want to THANK ALL of our sponsors for the concert. Dear Friends, Let me tell you about an "exciting event" for the animals and people of Levy County. The "Bark-N-Purr" Charity Concert - BBQ Cook-Off & More... will feature various events for the whole family. It's no great secret that pets bring a healing that no DOCTOR can provide. It's no great secret that YOUR help will save the unwanted pets! This event will be held at the Bronson Youth League, 220 Picnic St, Bronson, FL 32621, on Saturday, FEBRUARY 28, 2009. The youth league is a centralized location bringing all areas together within and hour from all locations like Tampa, Jacksonville, Tallahassee, and Orlando. We encourage everyone to come and support our efforts and enjoy a fun and entertaining day. Some of the events we are having is a sanctioned BBQ Cook-Off with the Florida BBQ Association. The Florida BBQ Association has more than 60 teams throughout Florida and a majority will be here competing for Grand and Reserve Champion. The attendees will get to enjoy a close-up look at a cook-off as seen on television shows like the Food Network. The teams will also be selling their great cooking for those who would like to taste. We will also have live musical performance by the Rick Gordon Band and Country Cousin. The headline is from Capitol Records Nashville Artist Chris Cagle known for his hit songs "Miss Me Baby", "I Breathe In-I Breathe Out, "What A Beautiful Day", and "Chick Dig It." Cagle will be performing at 8:00PM SO BE THERE! Please note all events are subject to change. Updates will done periodically to the schedule as needed. Other performances include a high flying, amazing Frisbee entertainers Disconnected K-9. Their live performance will have you in awe of how this dog can run and catch Frisbees while tappin your feet to music. You won't want to see it just once... We will also be featuring Levy County's K-9 Unit. They are some of bravest and hardest working unit of the Levy County Sheriffs office. They work 12 hr shifts with their handler and help sniff out drugs, and criminal apprehension. In addition, we will feature American Humane's "Rescue Rig." This 82ft long specialized tractor/trailer. American Humane began doing animal relief in August, 1916, by accepting an invitation of the War Department to help animals used by the U.S. Army during WW I. The invitation resulted in the development of the American Red Star Animal Relief Program known today as Animal Emergency Services. Since its inception in 1916, American Humane’s Red Star Animal Emergency Services has responded to national and international disasters, rescuing thousands of animals, as well as participating in numerous human rescues. Animal rescue technology and expertise has advanced drastically in 90 years. Today, American Humane’s Animal Emergency Services includes a fleet of emergency response vehicles customized to help animals in disasters -- specialized rescue equipment designed specifically for animal search and rescue. A Classic Car Show will be on hand as well. So come out and see if your favorite muscle car is represented. The Humane Society will have a silent auction as well. Some of the items listed are autographed Nascar memorabilia from Jimmy Johnson and others, a Florida Gator Bar Sign, dog and cat products just to name a few. How YOU Can Help

The Humane Society of Levy County, Inc. is always OPEN for HELP in following ways:

Letter From the President

I would like to announce to the residents of Levy County that the Humane Society of Levy County, Inc. is looking for people to help make the society an organization to be proud of in the future. I’m very proud of how the society has been functioning and laying out the ground work to build the organization. We now have the task of purchasing land and building a facility. We are pleased to announce that our application for tax exempt 501c3 status has been approved by the Federal government. That means that we can accept tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts as a public charity. During the past 16 months we have been helping the Levy County Animal Services adopt or rescue animals from the shelter. It has greatly reduced the number of animals that would have been euthanized. These animals now have forever homes and have been spayed or neutered to reduce the amount of unwanted pets. The Humane Societies of Levy County, Inc. have a mission to build a facility to do Low-Cost Spay and Neutering, but we need your help and contributions. If you are willing to make a donation to help complete this mission please feel free to call 352-486-5138 or email me at mike5138@aol.com By mail it is Humane Society of Levy County, Inc. PO. Box 678, Bronson FL 32621 web site: www.humanesocietyoflevycounty.com We need help with committees for planning, adoptions, fund-raiser, fostering, and educational programs. With sincere thanks, Michael Schenk, President At the present time, the Humane Society of Levy County, Inc. does not have a facility.
