Rooterville A Sanctuary Inc.
News
Stella is here and she is doing great! Stella is our first factory farm sow. We believe that Stella was on her way to slaughter and fell from a truck. Stella wandered into a driveway and collapsed, emaciated and covered with sores and bruises. She is healed up now. She has been spayed and she is enjoying a REAL life now. Come and meet this very lucky, sweet girl.
You can help Stella get the word out about how she and millions of sows are treated on factory farms by helping sponsor a life-sized stuffed model of herself! The stuffed Stella will be used at events to show the public how sows live in metal crates, 2' X 6', unable to move or turn around their entire lives. The life sized Stella will cost $600, please help sweet Stella get the word out about factory farming.
Who We Are
Rooterville is home to over 100 rescued animals. Most of our residents are pot bellied pigs because, well, we LOVE PIGS! Of course, we like other animals as well, but there are very few places helping pot bellied pigs so, we are always busy! There are so many unwanted pigs, its so very sad. We're doing all that we can to help as many as we can. If you would like to be a part, please contact us.
Because we believe that ALL animals are capable of suffering and feeling pain, we encourage everyone to choose a compassionate lifestyle by adopting a plant based diet and eliminating animal products from your life.
Did you know that pigs are the most intelligent domesticated animal? YES! They are much smarter than dogs and cats and have even mastered video games much faster than chimpanzees! Biologically, we are closer to pigs than apes.
Do you realize that over 11 BILLION factory farmed animals will be slaughtered this year in our country and that there are BILLIONS more that never make it to slaughter because the conditions they live in are so horrific, they do not survive? That's over 20,000 animals being slaughtered every minute of every day, 365 days a year! Indisputably, factory farming is the largest source of animal suffering and environmental degredation on the planet! Want to go green? Go veggie!
If you don't know where your meat and dairy come from, we strongly recommend that you look at what you are supporting when you purchasing meat at http://www.hfa.org/campaigns/pork.html . You would never consider financially supporting an industry that abuses dogs or cats, why would you be comfortable supporting an industry that treats animals so cruelly that you probably won't be able to endure looking at it? Please, become educated, you are the only hope for change for the BILLIONS of animals suffering behind closed doors, out of sight. ONE person going veggie will save 100 animals per year! One person CAN make a difference!
Being a vegetarian is better for you, the environment and definitely for the animals, especially the intelligent, gentle, sensitive and silly pig! At Rooterville, we know that "PIGS ARE FOR LOVIN', NOT THE OVEN!"
HELP A PET PROGRAM: As we have funds, we will spay/neuter companion pigs to help keep them in their homes and prevent them from producing more unwanted pet pigs in the future. If you have a pet pig and need help with fencing, shelter and/or spay/neuter, please contact us. Donations are always needed for this great program!
Adopting a friend
We desperately need loving homes for our rescued animals. We like for the pigs to go in pairs, so that they are not lonely however, we will consider adopting out single pigs. Pigs need yard time and do not make good house/apartment pets. We do require a home visit and a vet reference. We have a nominal adoption fee which only helps to partially cover the cost of the spay/neuter. We want the adoption to be a good fit for both you and the piggy. Please do your homework first and make sure that you are up to the challenge of having a companion piggy!
****PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE CURRENTLY FULL and not able to take anymore piggies at this time. If you're potbelly is showing behavioral problems that you just don't think you can live with, check out www.pigsaspets.org for solutions to these problems. Pigs are very stubborn but they are also very lovable creatures and almost every behavioral problem can be rectified. If you have already tried everything and you are just desparate to place your pig somewhere else, then please email Lana Hollenback at papa@pigsaspets.org*****
