Our Featured Pet...

Squeak came back to us on 7/3/09. She was born in March 2008. She and Baby Cat (also a female) were adopted together in June 2008. Unexpected circumstances forced their adopters to relocate so we had to return them to our foster program. Baby Cat has been adopted but Squeak tends to get overlooked. She has the most interesting markings on her face - it almost looks like a peace sign!  Squeak would do best in a home with only a couple cats. Nancy is her foster mom.

News

We are NOT maintaining a waiting list. It is unlikely we will be able to provide immediate assistance unless you can foster the cat yourself and SOS can help with the placement. Cats MUST stay inside. Call 727 481 5262 if you have found an abandoned cat or kitten. If you can care for the cat yourself, then we can assist you also. Please note WE DO NOT take ferals or owned cats. Like every all-volunteer humane/rescue group in the country, we are always in need of foster homes. We hope to one day not even be "in business" but until people recognize they are responsible for their cat or dog for the life of that pet then, sadly, we'll be needed. If you can shelter a cat or cats and kittens or any combination, please call 727-481-5091 or 481 5262. You must live in Pinellas County. The more foster homes we have the more cats we get off the street and out of harm's way. As of Aug 30, 2010, we are only taking foster homes that will take cats ages 6 months and up. We have kittens we need to place before we take in more kittens. If you can foster older cats please call us or email us. We need volunteers also to help with fundraising, specifically at special events such as Borders gift wrapping at Christmas or Get Rescued in Gulfport in the spring. These aren't as time consuming as fostering but volunteers are needed or else we can't attend these and other events. Please call for a volunteer application.

Who We Are

Save Our Strays Inc. is a non-profit, all volunteer organization whose mission is to rehome abandoned cats in Pinellas County, Florida. Cats are accepted into our shelter homes on a first come, first served basis. We are a no kill organization and therefore do not destroy animals to make room for more. Cats are cared for in volunteers' homes until they are ready for adoption. All are sterilized prior to adoption and have received the appropriate vaccines. All cats are also combo tested for feline leukemia and FIV (if old enough). We also microchip all our cats. . We have an on-going need for foster homes so if you are interested please email us or call 727-481-5262 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. We do not take calls on Sundays. You can leave a message if you wish and we'll get back to you usually within 48 hours. Please note we DO NOT take owned animals. Our mission is to rehome abandoned cats. Owned animals, by definition, have homes.

Adopting a friend

We do not have a shelter. We instead utilize pet stores in the area that donate space for Save Our Strays' cats. A contract must be completed at the time of adoption. The donation for each adoption is $50.00, subject to change.
