Who We Are

St. Francis Society Animal Rescue is an all volunteer, non-profit 501-c-3 animal rescue organization dedicated to saving the lives of sick, injured and stray domestic animals as well as spaying/neutering and medical services of those animals less fortunate.

Adopting a Friend

Volunteers man our Adoption Center every Saturday and Sunday from 12-5 at PetsMart on Citrus Park Blvd., across from Citrus Park Mall. Our volunteers are there to assist with cat adoptions and adoption inquiries. Some of our cats and kittens are housed there 7 days a week, while others are in foster homes awaiting cage space. St. Francis dogs/puppies are living in foster homes and can be seen on BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. It is up to our foster families to bring the foster dogs to PetsMart based on their individual schedules. Please understand, our fosters are volunteers and not paid for the work they do in animal rescue. They have personal and professional obligations in addition to the charity work they perform for St. Francis. Foster schedules must be verified before visiting Petsmart to ensure meeting the pooch you are intersted in. Adoption hours are 12:00pm to 5:00pm.

To adopt a cat or dog from St. Francis, you must first fill out an Adoption Agreement form and submit it to a St. Francis volunteer or fill one out on-line at www.luvamutt.org. The agreement form will be carefully reviewed by a director. Only a director can approve or disapprove an application for adoption. We try to reviewt applications quickly as possible. If we have problems contacting your references, this will delay the process. Most disapprovals result either from a negative veterinary reference, a "no pets" policy by landlords, or a difference in philosophy regarding the treatment of animals.

Once a cat application is approved, the adopter is notified and can arrange to pick up their new pet. Dog adoptions will require a meet and greet in the home before application is approved.

There are certain items that you must have before we will release the pet. A volunteer will be happy to assist you with shopping for your new friend before leaving PetsMart. You will also receive a copy of the pets health records and a packet of information put together especially for you and the new pet by one of our volunteers.

Be prepared for your new companion animal before you bring him or her home! Use this link to find valuable training resources.

Come Visit Us!

We don't have a facility to house our animals. All of our dogs live in foster homes, and can be seen by appointment only. Cats can be visited in our adoption center at PetsMart on Citrus Park Blvd. in Tampa, FL, across from the mall. No adoption inquiry calls please. Priority is given to those who fill out an Adoption Agreement online or in person. This process does not require you to adopt or guarantee you will be approved to adopt.
