What are Superstar Dogs? They are beautiful, sweet, and patient greyhounds that have been at our kennel for more than a year. Each of these wonderful dogs is still looking for the right adopter and a forever home to call his or her own.
When we started the Superstar program a couple of months ago we had 12 dogs, both males and females, that met the criteria of having been in the kennel for over one year. We can happily announce that all of these dogs were placed in loving homes!
While the program was underway, several more dogs reached that one year mark or were settled in a home but returned when their adopters could no longer care for them. All of these dogs are at the kennel through no fault of their own. We are, therefore, continuing the Superstar Dog program to place them as quickly as we can.
Our newest Superstar Dogs are:
I Am Brindle, "Flash" Strutinmystuff Zydeco JT Rascal Betty is Sweet, "Cocoa" Driven By Spice Onyx Eyes
If you are looking for a second (or third) greyhound or want to adopt your first greyhound, please visit their pages and come down to the kennel to get to know them. They truly deserve good homes.

The Black Dog Problem
Many groups including ours, are facing a growing problem placing black dogs. People are reluctant to adopt black or dark dogs. What we hear is:
They are intimidating or scary looking. Look into those big eyes again. They are just as sweet as any color of dog and they have so much love.
They look older. It is true, dark dogs noses tend to go gray more quickly. We have three year olds with very gray faces but they are still only 3 years old and young at heart!
They have bad skin. Flaking skin is more visible on a dark dog and their coats do not hold up well in our kennel atmosphere but once home with good food and a softer lifestyle, nothing compares to the shine of a black coat.
They are bad luck. We need to start a rumor that black dogs are GOOD Luck!
Please do not discount these wonderful dogs when you look. They are just as sweet and deserve homes too. Some of our black or dark dogs have been with us well over a year. YOU can be the answer to that problem, and have them warming you heart - and your couch - instead.
Volunteers Needed
We're always in need of volunteers. From helping out at adoption events to feeding & grooming...There is something for everyone. High school students have been a wonderful source of help for our group. They must be reliable and have transportation, but we can give service hours.
Who We Are
Friends of Greyhounds is a non-profit (501c3) corporation whose mission is to provide retired racing greyhounds with a caring environment and loving homes and to educate the public about these noble, loyal dogs.
But we are more than that. We are a final ray of hope for greyhounds that have no place to go after they retire from running. Our fantastic volunteers work constantly to provide for these dogs. They accomplish so much through fund-raisers and donations, the help of local businesses and, of course, the generosity of people like you.
We firmly believe that what we are doing, even if it is on a small scale for now, is helping. We have plans for a much larger kennel in the future and we intend to be around for quite a while, placing one dog at a time and saving one life at a time.
