WHO WE ARE
Parents Involved in Education (PIE)/Friendz for Life Sanctuary We are a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit, no kill pet rescue and education organization located in SE Palm Bay, FL. We are currently renting a residence that we are using for a shelter while we are actively seeking 10 acres of donated land. We have asked the City of Palm Bay for the donated land parcel, which they did not deny but have not found the appropriate parcel yet. American Ingenuity in Rockledge, FL is assisting us with our exterior and interior designs along with the Computer Aided Design Department of Keiser College (6th largest private ran college in Florida). American Ingenuity builds dome structures and have been featured in Popular Science as well as other magazines. We have chosen domes for the structures for the sanctuary due to they are the most resistant to hurricanes. With the sanctuary designed to offer emergency boarding and shelter for people and their pets during a natural disaster - domes seem to be the most appropriate for our area. If anyone has a 10 acre piece of land or knows of someone that does that they could donate for us to build our no kill sanctuary and run a Vet/Vet Tech Program from with the assistance of Keiser College please contact us immediately at: Mailing Address: P.O. Monetary donations are ALWAYS needed to help cover the extensive expense of sheltering and caring for often hundreds of pets. We belong to the Hill's Science Diet Shelter Plan for our food needs. This means that Hill's Science Diet sells us our foods at a greatly reduced cost. Even though the cost is greatly reduced it is a constant monthly cost that we must pay. We have chosen to incur these costs to provide healthier pets for perspective adopters. A pet that is fed a constant higher quality brand food has less medical expenses and waste. Then there are the veterinarian costs. All our pets receive a wellness check, testing, monthly preventative medicines (flea treatment/heatworm) along with any additional medical needs. With rescued pets there are often additional medical needs required. All but the smaller furry pets (guinea pigs, gerbils, hamsters, etc.) and birds get spayed/neutered prior to adoption. The smaller furry pets and birds would too be spayed and neutered prior to adoption if the cost to do so was not so out of line for a rescue to do. There are medications and medical supplies that we must keep in stock for pets that come in with medical needs during the hours our veterinarians are not available. Cleaning supplies are often forgotten about by the general public and yet for the number of pets we care for on an on-going basis they can also be quite costly. We do several loads of laundry, mop several times, wipe counters, clean kennels, scoop and/or change several cat litter boxes daily.
