Here are some other ideas how to help:

Maybe you have a used crate you want to sell for $10 at a yard sale. Do you REALLY need the $10? If not, why not donate the crate? Maybe you have some food your dog didn't like. Don't toss it! We can use it! Save your pennies for a month - roll them up, get some bills, and donate them. You'll barely feel it but it will help dogs in need.

Donate coupons for food and supplies. Bring us bags of open food from stores. Please make arrangements to have these items brought to the shelter. In some situations, pick up can be arranged. Please contact Lindsay Smith at lindsayrist@mindspring.com if you have ideas for a fundraiser.

Do anything you can to help these animal death rows adopt out more animals. You can take pictures of the animals and post them on a website. Contact breed rescues and alert them of dogs at the shelter. Offer to help pull and transport the dog to them. This helps IMMENSELY! You can go walk the dogs, and spend time with them to keep them from going stir crazy. Bring some treats and teach some basic commands. Decent manners go a long way in getting a dog adopted. Even a couple of hours a week can go a long way. If everyone would do a little bit, think of what could be accomplished!

Who We Are

Gilchrist County Animal Services is an Animal Shelter that takes in unwanted or stray pets. This is a kill facility at the present time. The policy for this facility is to hold all animals for five working days, after which, the animal may be adopted or destroyed humanely.

We encourage all animal owners to identify your pets with the owners name and telephone number, rabies tag and/or micro chip. We at Animal Services scan for chipped animals with Avid Scanners, so if found, we can reunite pet and owner.
