DeSoto County Animal Services is a county run public safety and animal control facility dealing with community related animal control functions such as stray or unwanted animals, animals at large, cruelty/neglect, vicious animals and other nuisance animals. All stray animals are held for a 4 day impound period and then available for adoption on the 5th business day, excluding weekends. Donations of dog food, cat food, cat litter, toys, and other supplies are always appreciated.
We have both dogs and cats available to the public for adoption. All animals must be spayed or neutered when adopted. The cost at adoption is $47. This includes $10 adoption fee, $12 for rabies shot, $25 towards spay/neuter. Our adopted pets are micro-chipped free of charge. Privately owned pets can be brought to the shelter and micro-chipped for $9. An appointment is made for the spay/neuter at the time of adoption. The animal is delivered to the vet by shelter staff, and you pick the animal up from vet after sterilization and pay any additional cost for the spay/neuter.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption to approved rescue groups only after they have been available to the general public for at least four business days. Rescue groups must be approved in advance.
DeSoto County Animal Services is located at 2048 McKay Street off of Hwy 17 North in Arcadia. Open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. until 5 :00 p.m. **THE KENNELS OPEN AT 10AM EACH DAY FOR ADOPTIONS**
