*Due to constant changes of available animals, please check back daily.*
This has been our busiest year and we need your help! We have many dogs that need to be walked, bathed, loved and adopted. Volunteers are always welcome! And many thanks to the volunteers we have now!!
We are very excited to announce the addition of our "FREE" canine obedience classes to all citizens that have adopted from our shelter.
If you are interested in joining the class please stop by AS and fill out an application. Classes are on-going and held on Thursday night.
Did you know that AS now offers evening hours on Thursday? We are now open on Thursday until 7 P.M.
Who We Are
The primary mission of the Animal Services Division is to educate the public about responsible pet ownership, enforce the Animal Services Ordinance, while providing shelter for impounded animals.
The Animal Services Officers investigate animal bites, citizen complaints, enforce the Animal Services Ordinance, impound stray animals, issue citations for violations, investigate cruelty and neglect, prosecute court cases, and respond to emergency calls.

Adopting a friend
Adopters are required to complete an application. The adoption fee for most of our dogs is $65.00. which includes, the first flea treatment, deworming, heartworm test (if over 6 months old), spay or neuter surgery and nationally registered Microchip ID. The adoption fee for cats is around $50.00 and includes all basic shots first flea treatment, test for feline leukemia and aids, deworming, spay or neuter surgery, and nationally registered Microchip ID.
If you choose to adopt an animal that is over four months of age and has not been spayed or neutered, at the time of the adoption, you will be asked to choose from a list of veterinarians in Citrus County who accept the sterilization certificate you have purchased as full payment for the spay/neuter surgery. Once you have chosen a veterinarian, we will contact the vet?s office and schedule a surgery appointment for your new pet.
