*Due to constant changes of available animals, please check back daily.* This has been our busiest year and we need your help! We have many dogs that need to be walked, bathed, loved and adopted. Volunteers are always welcome! And many thanks to the volunteers we have now!!

Dog Obedience Classes - All Citizens Welcome!

Our next Obedience Class will be starting in March of 2010. All participants MUST have shown the following items to Animal Services before they will be allowed to attend the class: 1. Completed Obedience class registration form 2. Current Rabies Vaccination 3. Proof of county License These classes are FREE to anyone who has adopted a dog from our shelter. However, If you have not adopted your dog from Animal Services, you are still welcome. We are just asking that you make a $20.00 donation prior to the first class. Items you will need to have in the class are: a 6 foot leash... a collar that works well with your dog... training treats are recommended... wear proper shoes... and we recommend to bring water. If you are interested in joining the class please stop by AS and fill out an application. Classes are on-going and held on Thursday night.

Who We Are

The primary mission of the Animal Services Division is to educate the public about responsible pet ownership, enforce the Animal Services Ordinance, while providing shelter for impounded animals. The Animal Services Officers investigate animal bites, citizen complaints, enforce the Animal Services Ordinance, impound stray animals, issue citations for violations, investigate cruelty and neglect, prosecute court cases, and respond to emergency calls. We are the only animal shelter in Citrus County to shelter pets! Come visit us for your next "fur" friend!

Adopting a friend

Adopters are required to complete an application. The adoption fee for our dogs is $60.00, which includes, the first flea treatment, deworming, heartworm test (if over 6 months old), spay or neuter surgery and nationally registered Microchip ID. The adoption fee for cats is $35.00 and includes all basic shots first flea treatment, test for feline leukemia and aids, deworming, spay or neuter surgery, and nationally registered Microchip ID. Adoption fees do not include the county license required for citizens of this county (Citrus). Click here to see our Happy Tails!
