Save The Animals Rescue Society was formed for the purpose of finding homes for abandoned dogs in Nassau County Florida. We are located by the beach in Northeast Florida, 40 miles north of Jacksonville and just south of the Georgia Florida stateline. The entire operation is run by volunteers. The dogs are fostered in the homes of these volunteer members of STARS until a suitable, caring forever home is found. The dogs are taken to local participating veterinarians, tested for disease, neutered or spayed, and given all the appropriate inoculations. We do not run a shelter. The majority of our adoptors come to us by listings on petfinder.com or through Adopt-A-Pet events, local advertisement, or referrals from previous adoptors. The volunteers make every effort to respond as quickly as possible and to keep the pictures of our adoptable pets current. However, we all work and do this as volunteers so please be patient. We take the pictures down once we are sure the dog has been placed in their forever home. |

Our Adoptable Pets STARS fee for adoption is $150.00. Occasionally, we get asked, "$150 for a DOG???!!" We consider $150 a very reasonable adoption fee. It covers the dog's initial shots, altering, food, flea and/or heartworm preventatives, and kennel or foster home space. The altering alone at a full service vet would cost $100 to $150! We try to do whatever it takes to insure you are adopting the healthiest animal possible. We don't make money finding homes for abandoned animals. What money we might save on one animal is put towards another animal whose medical needs go beyond $150. Heartworm treatment alone costs us nearly $500 per animal, yet when that animal does find a home, we only request the $150 donation. Please understand that your $150 donation is not for ONE particular animal, but a donation to a non-profit organization that assists many animals. E-mail
us at STARS All of our dogs are kept in foster homes until they are adopted. Our greatest need is for people willing to foster dogs. If you would like to help by fostering a dog, please complete and submit the Foster Application form. If you foster a dog in your home, and every time it is adopted you get another, you could personally save a dozen dogsin a year. We desperately need new foster homes so we can rescue more dogs and increase adoptions in 2008! If you have been considering the foster program, please fill out a form and give it a try in 2008! |
