Our Mission:
The Humane Society of Broward County provides shelter, aid and responsible adoptions to animals entrusted to our care, and educates the community about respect and kindness to all animals.

The Humane Society of Broward County...

  • is a 33,000 square-foot, completely air-conditioned shelter
  • has the ability to house 300+ dogs and cats
  • places thousands of animals each year
  • has over 200,000 patrons visit each year
  • educationally touched over 150,000 children and adults in fiscal year 2008
  • has full-time veterinarian services for shelter animals
  • is identified nationally as a "Leader in Animal Welfare in South Florida"
  • is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization
  • receives no funding from the government, United Way or any national group with a similar name

Adopting a friend

To adopt a friend for life, the Humane Society of Broward County charges the following adoption fees. Felines under 6 months are $50.00 and over 6 months there is no adoption fee; $100.00 for dogs six months and older and $135.00 for dogs under six months. The fee includes:

  • Spaying/neutering for every animal, including puppies and kittens, before going home
  • 14 day health care plan courtesy of VCA Animal Hospitals
  • Preliminary vaccinations and de-worming
  • Overall wellness check
  • Heartworm test for dogs and Feline Leukemia test for cats
  • Free pet behavior counseling
  • Flea Preventative Treatment

  • The shelter also has rabbits available for adoption and the fee for rabbits is $20.00 and includes spaying or neutering.
