If I find a pet I want to adopt online, what do I do?

Go to the shelter as soon as you are able. There is no guarantee that the pet you have identified online will still be available when you arrive at the shelter.

If the pet you wanted is no longer available, please consider adopting another animal in our shelter. Each day there are over 300 loveable dogs and cats looking for a good home.

Is there anything I should bring with me to the shelter when I find the pet that I would like to adopt?

Don't forget to bring the animal's unique online identification number with you to the shelter and the adoption requirements in case the pet is ready to go home today. This will help you move through the adoption process faster.

Can I put a hold on an animal?

Only by going in person to the Shelter located at, 7401 NW 74th Street, can you put a hold on a specific animal.

Not all pets in the website are or will be available for adoption. You must go in person to place the hold, but this pet may have not passed the health and/or temperament evaluations or may be pending evaluation, so you may not be able to see it.

    WHO WE ARE:

Animal Services is primarily charged with the responsibility of enforcing Chapter 5 of the Code of Miami-Dade County, as well as Florida Statutes 828, which deals primarily with animal cruelty issues. Unlike private shelters that have limitations on the number of pets they accept, we accept all dogs and cats. Each year the shelter impounds more than 34,000 pets. Our goal is to reunite pets with their owner or find life long homes for as many animals as possible and to provide proper care for them while they’re at the shelter.

ASD receives approximately 22-percent of its budget from the County’s General Operating Fund, while the remaining 78-percent is derived through dog license tag sales, shelter fees, enforcement fines, and donations.
Our adoption fee includes spay/neuter surgery, microchip identification, vaccinations, heartworm and FIV/FELV test and deworming. Our shelter welcomes pre-registered 501c3 Rescues to become partners and pull pets from our facility.

    ADOPTION HOURS:
    Monday through Friday, 10am - 6:30 p.m.
    Saturday and Sunday, 10am - 4 p.m.

    Closed on all major holidays

The shelter's main phone line (305) 884-1101 or simply dial the county's assistance number, "311."
