Our adoptions are held at the PetsMart @ 8801 Southside Blvd in Jacksonville approximately 2 times per month. Please visit our website for the exact dates or check the calendar on Petfinder. Under normal circumstances please note that we only adopt our pets to families living WITHIN A 75 MILE RADIUS OF JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA. If you live outside of this zone please check the local rescue shelters, animal control and the Humane Society in your area or contact us for more information.

Who We Are

Animal Rescue Movement, Inc. ("ARM") was established in 1993 by Jeanne Dixon. We are a non-profit, no-kill, all-volunteer organization in the Jacksonville, Florida area.

ARM rescues abused, injured and abandoned dogs and cats from local shelters and streets. For these animals, being rescued is the difference between life and death, as most of these loving pets would otherwise face certain death due to pet overpopulation and overcrowding in our local shelters. We rescue mixed breed as well as purebred animals. Once rescued, ARM provides food, proper medical care, spay/neuter and all necessary vaccinations.

Potential adopters are asked to complete an adoption application.

OUR MISSION

To seek the proper medical care for all animals rescued by us, to spay/neuter all animals BEFORE they are placed in their new homes, to love and socialize these animals to ensure the success of their future adoption, and to place them in permanent, loving homes.

We also strive to inform/educate the public of the importance of spay/neuter and proper medical care, heartworm prevention, crate training when appropriate and socialization/training of their pet(s).

Adopting a friend

Animal Rescue Movement's adoption policy was modeled after the requirements of other animal welfare groups and shelters nationwide. Each application is reviewed carefully to ensure the best possible placement of each animal. This process can be emotional for everyone; therefore ARM representatives do their best to process each application within a 72-hour timeframe. ARM relies on an adoption application, personal interview, vet/personal references and the interaction between the pet and potential owner to determine if an adoption is possible. ARM implores each applicant to answer every question thoroughly and honestly. Misinformation, or lack thereof, can end in disappointment for the new family pet.

As each animal is unique, certain recommendations or requirements may be included in the final contract (i.e. crate required with adoption, six-foot privacy fence required for adoption, etc.).

Expect your new pet to be "disoriented" at first and allow time for adjustments and housebreaking accidents to occur. This is a very stressful time for the animal and the new owner should be PATIENT and UNDERSTANDING. Please be prepared to allow six to eight weeks for your new pet to adjust to your household.

Adoption Fee

ARM is a non-profit, tax deductible organization, relying on donations and adoption fees to help cover the costs of rescuing these animals. Adoption fees are as follows:

Canines $85 to $150 Felines $75

*ARM reserves the right to increase the adoption fee for any animal that has received extensive medical care, for any animals that we had to pay a fee to rescue, or for any animal known to be purebred.

The adoption fee includes:

Sterilization of pet
Current vaccinations
Deworming
Heartworm test/treatment (canines over 6 months)
Feline leukemia test (felines)
