SHS services a 440 square mile area serving portions of Sarasota, Charlotte, and Lee counties. We accept animals from the Charlotte County Animal Control twenty-four hours a day. We also accept animals from private citizens seven days a week (except certain major holidays).
SHS is the only "open admission" shelter, taking in animals 365 days a year - we never refuse an animal in need of shelter.
SHS received more than 4000 animals in 2008. We reunited 300 animals with their owners, and adopted 63% of the dogs and 43% of cats into responsible, secure and loving homes.
