Alachua County Animal Services serves the cities of Gainesville, Alachua, High Springs, Newberry, and Archer, as well as the smaller townships and surrounding unincorporated areas of the county. We handle domestic Animal Control issues, investigate animal neglect and cruelty, hold strays for owner reclaim, and adopt out unwanted animals. We also offer low-cost rabies vaccinations and microchipping to the public.
Our adoption requirements are very simple. You must be 18 years old to fill out an application. We will review your application and tell you when you're approved. To be approved, your landlord must approve your bringing an animal into your home. Any cat, dog, or ferret, (all pets three months of age or older) that you already have at home must be vaccinated and (if you live in Alachua County) licensed for rabies as required by law. The first approved customer will be allowed to adopt an animal.
We are located on 53rd Avenue just off of Waldo Road near the Gainesville Airport. Our hours are Tuesday-Saturday, from 9:30 to 5:30. Remember, all adoptions stop at 5:00.
