Adopting A Friend

View our pets at the above link, then stop by or give us a call at (386) 445-1814. You may also send an email to adopt@flaglerhumanesociety.org  or use the contact form at the bottom of the page.

A pets’ activity level, size, age, breed and temperament should be considered to determine what pet is best for your lifestyle and household.   After spending some 1 on 1 time with your potemtial pet, you will be asked to complete an adoption application, which must be reviewed and approved by our staff. Our Adoption Specialists will assist you throughout the process and answer any questions you may have.  Pets are sterilized before going to their new homes. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, canine heartworm test, feline leukemia test, vaccines, worming, local vet exam, and 10 lb. bag of Science Diet food. Please visit our website for details on adoption fees and policies.

Who We Are

Who We Are

Our primary responsibility is to take in homeless animals, care for them for the time they are with us, and find them loving “forever homes” where they can live out their lives as part of a family.  In order to maximize our efforts to place animals in the most appropriate homes, we have rolled out a new campaign, which we call Plan Alive.  Under our Plan Alive initiative we aim to eliminate the need to euthanize adoptable animals because of space and/or time limitations.

Plan Alive is tightly coordinated by staff and volunteers and has three components:

Increasing the numbers of Adoptions.  Finding homes for kittens, cats, puppies dogs, and the occasional rabbit, iguana, and ferret, is the primary focus of the Plan Alive campaign.

Expanding the use of Foster homes where animals can be placed temporarily, helping to alleviate overcrowding and providing a safe place for animals that need some time before they are ready to go into their forever homes.

Reaching out to approved Rescue groups to take our animals when we are at a point that we need to have room for new arrivals.

Everyone involved with the Shelter is very excited about this new direction.  But, as exciting as Plan Alive is, it is just one of the programs being offered.  In addition to ensuring that all animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before they are adopted, we offer the following services:

o       Animal Control services for Flagler County, Bunnell, and Flagler Beach

o       Owner surrender services when families can no longer care for their pets

o       Humanely euthanizing elderly or ill animals when requested by owners

o       Crematory services for beloved pets

o       Lost and found services for pet owners

o       Operating a free pet-food bank for low-income families

o       Ambassador dog program - taking dogs to nursing homes and to libraries

o       Humane education programs for children

o       Our Thrift Store at 4490 US Hwy 1 S. in Bunnell – donate or buy to help the animals!

And don’t forget about the Flagler Humane Society’s Thrift Store, located at 4490 US Hwy. 1 South in Bunnell.  It’s a great place to donate and buy all sorts of goods and furnishings and all of the money from the Thrift Store goes to the Shelter to help take care of the animals.

Of course, all of these wonderful services place added demands on the Shelter.  You can help in so many ways.

We always appreciate donations—both cash and in kind.  The Shelter can always use your old laptop or computer or printer when you upgrade at home or at work.  Please check out our Wish List to see if there are any items on it that you could donate to us.  You can easily make a one-time or recurring cash donation directly from the website.  Recurring donations are particularly easy.  For as little as $5 or $10 a month, you can make a generous donation with little or no pain in your wallet.  Check it out!

Volunteers are needed to help with the animals.  Or, if you’re unable or would prefer not having interaction with the animals, there are so many ways you can help.  Become a Greeter, assist with adoptions, work at the Front Desk selling tags or directing people to the area where they can best be helped, help out at the Thrift Store or come in and do some laundry.  There are so many opportunities for volunteering; let us tell you how much your time means to the animals.

We are striving to become a facility in which we can all be proud.  Join us and become part of this wonderful effort.
