DARE dogs come from shelters or owners who surrendered their dogs because of changed life circumstances like deaths, divorce, etc. Prior to adoption, all DARE dogs are spayed or neutered, brought up to date on shots and have had any other urgently needed medical procedures done, always costing significantly more than their adoption fee, which is why your financial support of DARE is so important.

DARE currently has a large number of dachshunds that are heart worm positive and going through heart worm treatment. This is a very expensive vetting procedure and could easily be prevented with the use of a monthly heart worm preventative pill. PLEASE keep your pet on heart worm preventative, all dogs have the potential to contract heart worms, no matter how little time they spend in the yard. It only take one bite from one infected mosquito.
Won't you PLEASE help DARE pay for heartworm treatment for these dogs? They were pulled from death row at the shelter, where they would have been put to sleep because of the heart worms, had DARE not taken them into foster care. No amout is too small!!
