News

Updated October 26, 2007. Feline Friends encourages cat lovers to contribute to groundbreaking research at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Florida. Veterinarians there are doing vaccine, heartworm and other research to help all cats. For tax-deductable donation information, please contact Julie at levyj@vetmed.ufl.edu.

Who We Are

Feline Friends is a small foster program offering cats and kittens for adoption. All cats enter the adoption program from the College of Veterinary Medicine. Unfortunately, we do not have room to accept stray cats or owner-relinquished cats from the public. Cats and kittens are FeLV and FIV negative, vaccinated with FVRCP, FeLV, and rabies (if old enough), and receive monthly flea and heartworm preventive. In addition, all cats and kittens are spayed or neutered before adoption.

Donate a
Bed

Our kitties love to sleep on Kuranda beds, but we don't have enough for everyone. Whenever possible, we like to send each cat or kitten home with the bed and/or fleece pad they are used to sleeping on. It helps with the transition to a "forever" home to have a bed that is familiar. If you would like to donate a bed at a special wholesale price for a another cat to sleep in comfort, please click here.

Adopting a Friend

All of our adoptions are finalized at a local cat hospital or the College of Veterinary Medicine. We do not have a formal shelter building, but visits with specific available cats are welcome by appointment. In order to assure the best possible match between each of our cats and their new homes, a detailed application is required of interested potential adopters. If accepted, an adoption contract is signed, and a $50 adoption fee is paid. Arrangements can be made for shipment of cats for long distance adoptions in special circumstances.

Volunteering and Donations

Feline Friends does not have an active volunteer or fund-raising program, and we not a tax-exempt organization. However, if you want to help homeless cats, don't dispair! We recommend this outstanding program for both volunteer and funding support.

Operation Catnip is a free spay/neuter clinic for stray and feral cats in our community. Volunteers are always welcome to staff the monthly clinics, and to help with phone communications and publicity. Donations to this tax-exempt organization help defray medical costs. For more information, please see the website at www.operationcatnip.org. To volunteer, contact Julie at levyj@vetmed.ufl.edu. To donate, contact Karen at scottk@vetmed.ufl.edu.
