Our Mission

Cavalier Rescue of Florida is an all-volunteer, nonprofit 501(c)(3) animal rescue, organized to benefit Cavalier King Charles Spaniels in need.

Starting in 1997 as Mid-Florida Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club Rescue (MFCKCSC Rescue), certified by the AKC to rescue, the club quickly made its focus rescuing CKCS in need. This focus led the organization to become Cavalier Rescue of Florida, Inc. (CRF) in 2000.

Our mission is to be the premiere internationally known, dedicated breed specific Rescue that will proactively rescue & save the lives of viable CKCS that can be rehabilitated and rehomed giving them a 2nd chance at a quality of life and a loving 'furever' home.

From the moment CRF is notified about a Cavalier in need, we follow a rigorous process - documenting the situation, guarding the privacy of the surrender, arranging with volunteers each point in the introduction and surrender process, to assigning a new surrender to an awaiting caring foster home and immediately is evaluated from a health and wellness standpoint. CRF's extensive network on volunteers, fosters, transporters and veterinarians and vet specialists are alerted and all health and wellness issues are addressed starting with medically evaluating each dogs.

Aside from providing comfort and care, Cavalier surrenders are brought into CRF certified foster homes, where they are lovingly made part of the family, however briefly. Fosters are tasked with learning and evaluating the surrender's behavior, habits and needs. Are they good with kids? Do they like long walks or ball play? House trained? Crate trained? Cuddle bug, licker or reserved?

Before any surrender can be made available for adoption, all shots are brought up to date, conditions treated, teeth cleaned and spaying or neutering performed. And all dogs, if not already, are microchipped.

All costs of surrendering, rehabilitating and rehoming these magnificent animals is covered by CRF from the incredible generosity of our Angel donors. None of these costs are passed on to the adopters. CRF has a near perfect placement score as we use an intense selection process for rehoming these Cavaliers.

Adoption Policy

CRF grants adoptions based on the best match FOR THE DOG'S NEEDS. No exceptions.

We take into consideration dogs that may be of interest to you, but based on the dogs needs and requirements, CRF will match that dogs needs to applicants' home, lifestyle, history with the breed, experience with dogs that have medical challenges / are senior / may have special needs etc.

Our process is in two (2) parts:

1) An approval of the Adoption Application (found on our website) which includes providing personal and vet references. Please note that only about 15% of applications will be approved. There is no fee for filling out an adoption application at this time. If your application scores above the minimum requirements, a home inspection is required to be approved.

2) Once approved, you are placed on the 'waitlist', as dogs of interest to you become available, you must notify CRF of your interest / and or if a dog's needs match your profile, likewise, CRF will contact you regarding a possible interest.

Adoptions can be made in-state, out-of-state and internationally. NOTE: For International adoptions, adaptors are responsible for all requirements / fees from their country of origin as well as all requirements / fees to take possession and remove a dog from the United States. This is not an area that CRF can assist you with.

Finally, be patient. We are not a shelter and Cavaliers come with many benefits but many specific needs. It can take several months and several tries before a match happens. Not to mention, we are an all-volunteer grassroots organization, our resources are very limited. We are grateful for your interest and understanding. We wish you the love of a Cavalier.
