RUFF Rescue follows certain guidelines when approving a family for adoption. These guidelines are put into place so that we can find our dogs forever homes that are right for them, and to help you find a new forever friend that will fit in with your family.
Adopters must have an excellent veterinarian reference, as well as evidence that all dogs in the home have been kept on heartworm and flea prevention, and are spayed or neutered.
We require a favorable home visit for each one of our dogs. What is favorable varies from dog to dog - some may not do well in an apartment, some may need a fenced yard, some may need a human at home during most of the day. We require a lifetime commitment to our dogs - we want them to be members of the family, and family members are for life.
Our adoption fee includes all vaccinations needed up to the time of adoption, spay/neuter, wellness exam, fecal, heartworm test (if dog is six months or older), and microchip with lifetime registration.
Reduced fees are available for senior dogs, and dogs requiring ongoing medical care. Senior citizens (age 62 and older) are entitled to reduced adoption fees for senior dogs.
The partners of RUFF Rescue have been working and volunteering in the animal rescue field for over ten years. We have collectively fostered and found forever homes for over 600 dogs, from motherless newborns to seniors.
While we enjoyed working with other animal rescue organizations, we felt it was time to venture out on our own and put all our energy into saving as many dogs from kill shelters as possible, and finding them the loving, forever homes they deserve. We want these dogs to have a voice, someone fighting to save their lives and give them a chance to be loved. We want to work towards one day living in a no-kill community, where an adoptable dog’s life isn’t ended simply because of space limitations.
We rescue dogs from kill facilities in the Central Florida area, and do not turn away any dog because of age, breed, size, or medical condition.
