When you became an owner of your dog, the relationship and bond that is formed is meant to last a lifetime. But not all things in life work out that perfectly. Dogs and Their Companions, LLC. formed dogHEART Adoptions with this in mind.
The goal of dogHEART is to:
Help - dogs and their owners.
Educate - society about dog ownership, care, behavior, and training.
Adopt - dogs into caring and loving homes.
Rescue - dogs in need.
Train - all new adoptive families and dogs so the new relationship and bond that is created will last for a lifetime.
dogHEART functions in two ways. Firstly, we can help you find the dog that is meant for you and your family. It can be very frustrating searching the papers, web, and other resources trying to interpret all the information. We will find your dog, whether it is through a rescue/shelter, breeder, or personal owner. We will temperament test and evaluate all the dogs for behavior and obedience abilities and let you know upfront exactly what you can expect from your new family member.
Secondly, Dogs and Their Companions, LLC. and dogHEART function as a rescue and referral service, not a shelter. We have dogs that come to us from private owners who are not capable of caring for their dog anymore for a multitude of different reasons. These animals need a home and we do everything that we can to find a forever home for the dog. We are in the process of becoming a fully functioning 501.3C nonprofit organization.
Adopting a friend
Once you have found the dog you wish to adopt from the Petfinder website (www.petfinder.com/de44), you need to complete an adoption application.
Once the application is received, it is reviewed, all references (personal and veterinarian) are called and you will be contacted on when will be an agreeable time to meet if it is decided you will be a good match for the dog.
A home visit will be mandatory. It may also be necessary to show documented proof that you are allowed animals at your residence if you rent/lease and proof if you own.
dogHEART is always looking for volunteers. If you are interested in learning more, please contact us.
