December has been busy month . We acquired three more starving horses . One was an Arabian, a draft and a Clydesdale. We are working diligently to bring these horses back to their ideal weight. You can see they have a long way to go. Hopefully, when they are ready we will be able to find them their new forever home quickly. After enduring months of suffering, they deserve a lot of love and respect from a new family. Although they have clearly lived in unsatisfactory conditions, they seem to be very friendly and well behaved. For more information visit our web site @ www.whimsicalequine.rescuegroups.org
Whimsical acquired tax exempt status - 501(c)(3) - in 2005. Funds for the rescue come from donations, adoptions, grants and fundraising events. Our need for funding assistance is acute, as rescuing a single healthy horse can easily exceed $900.00. An unhealthy horse can require up to $350.00 per month for medications and veterinary care.
We are dedicated to improving the lives of the magnificent horses we rescue, as well as the families who adopt them. The exhaustive labor of our small group and ever expanding circle of volunteers is well rewarded by the knowledge that these horses are safe.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO HELP?
Not sure how? It's easy, the next time you go to get feed for your horse, buy a bag for us. Don't have a horse? You could sponsor one of ours. By giving a dollar amount each month, you can sponsor one of our rescued horses. Your donation will go toward that particular horse's care (ie. food, medical). Most of our rescued horses are initially in need of extra weight, just to bring them up to their normal weight. This requires special grain. Some are in medical situations causing them to remain at W.E.R. until they are released from veterinary care. Some are at Whimsical for a longer period of time due to issues preventing them to be acceptable such as: training and/or trust issues. Others are older and to some perspective adopters, are not as desirable as younger horses.
And some just haven't found that loving human and are awaiting adoption.
The following Poem speaks for why we do what we do…………..
"Rescue Me"
By Dana R. Hendrix
The sparkle of life has long since left my tired eyes
Years of neglect have brought me here
A steel hand is all that I have felt
The bang of an auction gavel sealed my fate
But a golden ray of sunshine comes upon me
A soft voice whispers in my drooping ears
A gentle hand touches my tired withers
Although I flinch, I do not feel the sting of a whip
Calming words and a soothing voice ease my fears
A halter & lead rope are gently placed on me
Another trailer stands before me now, I am urged to go inside
I struggle with fear and pull back hard on the rope
Awaiting harsh words and whip lashes, I pull harder
But no harsh words hurt my ears
No sting from the whip piercing my skin
I only hear more gentle soothing words
With fear and trepidation, I step into the trailer
My entire body quivers in fear
A huge mound of fresh green hay awaits me
At my destination, I am gently led into an enormous stall
with deep, soft bedding
A trough of clear, cool water to drink from
A feed tub with fresh grain awaits me
I peek out my stall door to a pasture of lush green grass
I wonder to myself "Is this the Rainbow Bridge?"
The horse in the stall next to me nickers, "No, it's an equine rescue."
WE ARE IN NEED OF THE FOLLOWING:
*feed
*hay
*vaccines and wormer
*medical supplies
*bedding
*sheds (old or new)
*a safe horse trailer (we have been moving many horses into the program and the trailer we have is quite old and in need of some repairs) a stock trailer would be the dream trailer as many of the horses do NOT load and a 2 horse straight load makes it lengthy at times
*building materials (to add-on to existing barn and for 3 run-ins)
*hands to assist in the much needed up keep
*And any monetary donations are also greatly accepted
