NOTICE:

IT IS ILLEGAL TO DUMP ANIMALS ON PRIVATE PROPERTY AND ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD!
EXPECTING THEM TO FIND FOOD FOR THEMSELVES IS CRUEL!

AHS IS FULL! WE FEED 150 CATS AND ARE UNABLE TO ACCEPT
ANY MORE KITTENS OR CATS AT THIS TIME! WE ARE OVERWHELMED AND WOULD APPRECIATE
GETTING SOME EXTRA VOLUNTEERS TO HELP US WITH ALL THESE FELINES.

ALSO: WE ARE UNABLE TO TAKE IN PEOPLE'S PERSONAL PETS.
INSTEAD, WE SUGGEST YOU PLACE ADOPTION ADS ON THE BULLETIN
BOARDS IN VETERINARIANS' OFFICES, OR IN YOUR LOCAL NEWSPAPER(S).

CAN YOU HELP US?

We need a volunteer who can do some SEWING / STITCHING

We need a HORSE-BARN SETTING for some not-friendly-to-the-touch kitty-cats who are fixed.

Also, we are always in need of DONATIONS of terrycloth towels!

Know any LOTTERY WINNERS? (You never know unless you ask!)
We are looking for a benefactor who is interested in making a significant charitable donation
toward developing a special sanctuary for neglected and feral cats.

AHS Newsbriefs
~~ Winter 2007/2008 ~~

Dear Friends of AHS:

Happy New Year to all of our feline-loving friends! We trust that in 2008, even more of our furry friends will find "forever homes." The last few years have been fairly good for us at the Sanctuary. AHS was blessed with a wonderful donation/gift of a 30' Airstream RV. We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Elizabeth Bancroft. The RV is in the process of being modified to be used for educational outreach purposes.

We are a United Way write-in charity--#9529! Please keep us in mind when you make your charitable giving.

Are you a Verizon employee? Consider helping AHS through Verizon's Matching Incentive and Volunteer Incentive programs.

We are also listed as a charitable cause at the iGive.com website. Shop at iGive and help earn money for our shelter! iGive is currently sponsoring a $50,000 surfathon for a Good Cause. Please consider clicking for a good cause.

Do you shop at Food Lion? Please register your MVP Card with the Lion Shop & Share program at www.foodlion.com to help raise money for us.

Special thanks are due to our dedicated volunteers, veterinarians and staffs, and friends in the community. Also, we greatly appreciate those caring individuals who send monetary donations to help feed the kitties! Also: AHS sincerely appreciates the monetary donation from the Delaware Community Foundation (The Lane McAlister Fund).

How You Can Help

This is not a "cat problem"--this is a "people problem"!
Please spay and neuter all pets!

Look at the big picture: Did you know there are a ZILLION abandoned and homeless cats and kittens in the State of Delaware? How can YOU help make a difference in the lives of these pathetic animals? Consider volunteering (petting kitties, helping at fundraisers, helping at adoption centers, helping with paperwork), remembering AHS in your will or estate (which becomes a lasting legacy), making a monetary donation or a donation of real estate and/or land, or buying an AHS logo t-shirt.

What We Do

The Shelter. AHS currently houses, feeds, and cares for up to 200 cats. Unfortunately, we are almost always at full capacity. Incoming animals are spayed/neutered, tested for FeLV and FIV, vaccinated (rabies), and receive medical treatment.

Our Funding. AHS is staffed solely by volunteers. All of our funds come from private donations. We do not receive any federal funding, but depend upon membership and monetary donations, fundraising events, t-shirt sales, and individual contributions.

The Future. It is the ultimate goal of AHS, as part of a coalition effort, to make Delaware a "no-kill" state and stop the needless euthanization of thousands of healthy animals. This can be achieved through low-cost spay/neuter programs, as well as expanded facilities and a network of foster homes and volunteers.

The Animal Overpopulation Epidemic. A root cause of the overpopulation epidemic is, of course, the need for low-cost spay/neuter availability. It has been the dream of AHS to establish a low-cost spay clinic to benefit low income and senior citizen households.

Society's "Throw Away" Mentality. The animal overpopulation crisis is also caused by the "throw away" mentality of society, and is why communities so desperately need the continued services and outreach of organizations such as AHS. Thanks in advance for your generous support!
