Bell is a 2 year old, Rotteweiler mix. She is on the larger side at 60lbs. Bell is good with other dogs andgood with cats!
Bell is still very much a puppy and still has some puppy energy to work out. She would love a family committed to making sure she gets the exercise she needs! Bell loves to wrestle and would love another canine sibling. She would also make a great dog park dog.
Bell loves to cuddle at the end of a day of play. She loves to sit on the couch and bury her head into her foster's chest while watching TV! Could you be Bell's newest couch buddy?

What is a “Lucky Dog?”
A Lucky Dog is a fortunate
animal who we are able to rescue from a high-kill shelter or from an
owner who needs to re-home his or her
pet. Right now, “Lucky Dogs” are primarily of the canine variety,
but Lucky Dog Animal Rescue plans to expand to help animals of
all kinds. We consider any animal in need a potential “Lucky
Dog”!
Where do Lucky Dogs come from?
Most Lucky Dogs come from high-kill
shelters in Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
We work with shelter partners in low-income and rural areas where hundreds
of highly-adoptable dogs are euthanized each month due to overpopulation
problems, lack of spay/neuter education and inadequate funding.
With the help of our dedicated volunteers and supporters, Lucky Dog
rescues as many of these pups as possible.
Where are the Lucky Dogs now?
The Lucky Dogs live in foster
homes throughout the Washington, DC area, including Maryland and Northern
Virginia. They live as far north as Baltimore and as far south as Burke
and Woodbridge. Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does not have a shelter
of its own. We rely completely on the generosity of our foster parents!
How do Lucky Dogs get here?
We have wonderful partners
who drive the Lucky Dogs all the way from their rural shelters to the
DC area. These “transports” can be as large as 60 dogs and
as small as 1 dog. A portion of each adoption fee goes to the
costs of arranging these transports. We always need lots of help when
the dogs arrive from the shelters – let us know if you’d like to
be part of the welcoming committee.
How can I get a Lucky Dog?
It’s simple! Just fill out
the adoption questionnaire to get the screening process started!
How can I help the Lucky Dogs?
There are many ways to help the Lucky Dogs:
Our adoption fees vary depending on the age of the dog and whether the dog needs heartworm treatment. All of our adoption fees include transportation to the DC area and age-appropriate vet care, including spay/neuter surgery for all dogs over 6 months of age, DHLPP shots, rabies shots, and de-worming. The estimated costs for adopting Lucky Dogs is provided below:
How do I adopt a Lucky Dog?
When you are ready to adopt
a new friend, we’ll ask you to complete our friendly screening process,
which ensures safe and successful adoptions!
This process typically takes less than a week
and then you are ready to take your Lucky Dog home!
Yes — as long as we can arrange a home visit, we can adopt out of our area. However, priority will be given to local adopters - especially with puppies.
Can Lucky Dogs live in apartments?
Absolutely! But, we will need to discuss a plan for exercising your dog, including, perhaps, visits to a fenced in dog park. We realize that different dogs have different exercise needs and that some dogs are a better match for apartment living. We will work with you to find a dog suitable to your living situation.
Do Lucky Dogs need fenced yards?
Nope! However, we strongly urge you not to let your Lucky Dog off leash in an un-fenced area. This is particularly important in the first 2-3 months, when your Lucky Dog might be prone to wandering off – without knowing the way back home!
Yep! We’ll just check with your landlord to make sure dogs are allowed in your rental unit. We’ll also check on any weight, size, or breed restrictions. This is particularly important if you are adopting a puppy because we cannot guarantee what size or weight a puppy will grow to be.
Absolutely! And, because you are committing to that dog without actually meeting him or her ahead of time, we will give you a 2-week trial adoption. This will give you the time you need to determine if this is the right Lucky Dog for you. Trial adoptions do require a commitment of at least 2 weeks - even if you discover that this particular Lucky Dog is not the one for you. We need that time to find another suitable foster or adopter. However, if the dog presents a danger to you or your current pets, we will do everything we can to move him or her quickly.
Maybe. We are not a first-come, first served rescue. We try our very hardest to find the best match for our dogs and our adopters. Being first doesn’t hurt, but it’s not a guarantee. We commit to being as open and honest about the selection process as we can.
Absolutely! We will help approved adopters find the right dog for them. There is no need to reapply or to start the process over again.
Can I apply to adopt without knowing which Lucky Dog I want?
Yep! We have a Matchmaking
Team dedicated to screening adopters who are not sure which dog they’d
like. Once you are approved to adopt, this incredible team will
send you suggestions of dogs who might be a good match!
