Adopting A Friend
The adoption process is almost always completed within one week from when you submit your adoption questionnaire. Times can vary depending on your location, the dog’s location, and availability.
Once approved you will need to finalize your adoption by completing an adoption contract and paying the adoption fee in cash or check. At that time, available medical records will be provided along with a variety of other information.
- Puppy (6 months and under) – $350.00
- Young/Adult Dog (7 months to 8 yrs) – $295.00
- Golden Year – $200.00
- Heartworm positive Dog – $375.00
K-9 Lifesavers is often asked what is included in our adoption fees. Because we receive no government funding, we rely primarily on adoption fees to support our mission.
Some of our costs are obvious, such as food, leashes, collars, bowls, crates, bedding, and toys. But the adoption fee also covers a number of other services. Because we save Death Row Dogs, if an immediate foster is not available, we have to pay boarding fees in order to save the dog and, transport costs to bring the dog to the area.
Adult dogs have been altered and puppies receive a certificate to cover the cost of spay/neuter (at designated K-9 vets). Our dogs receive Heartworm tests, DHLPP, Bordetella, and Rabies. Puppies receive vaccinations appropriate to their age. We also flea-treat and de-worm every dog that comes into our program. Some have also been treated for other medical issues such as heartworm or kennel cough. The adoption fee covers only a portion of our animal care expenses and is less than what you would pay for these veterinary services on your own.
We hope this information is useful in helping potential adopters understand some of the costs that are involved in supporting K-9 Lifesavers Dog Rescue.
Who We Are
K-9 Lifesavers rescues homeless and abandoned dogs from high-kill shelters and other high-risk situations. K-9 Lifesavers works with dedicated volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians, trainers, and kennels to provide loving temporary care while we find well-matched, carefully screened forever homes for each dog we take in. We also serve as a support group to our adopters and all dog owners by providing ongoing education and resources for the well-being of their dogs, including the importance of proactive spay/neuter policies, positive behavior training, and good nutrition.
K-9 Lifesavers is an approved 501(c)(3) non-profit, volunteer organization. We rescue dogs and puppies that are scheduled for euthanasia from high kill shelters in Georgia, West Virginia, the Carolina’s, Tennessee, and Kentucky. We pay transporters to bring the dogs to the DC metro area. When they arrive, we do basic vetting and do our best to assess any emotional, physical or training needs they might have.
We do not have a Shelter Facility; we use boarding facilities, private foster homes, partner veterinarians, and trainers.
K-9 Lifesavers holds adoption events every weekend in various locations to help place our dogs in well-screened suitable homes and is always accepting volunteers.
We welcome you to explore our website ( http://www.k-9lifesavers.org ), see the dogs that we rescue, and all that we have to offer, then please join us in our continuing efforts to give them a second chance at life.
