Who We Are

Who are the members of the Branford Compassion Club? Just ordinary citizens with a desire to help make life a little bit nicer for those animals forsaken by our society. We live in an age where everything is considered "throw-away," including our pets. So many of the colony cats under our care were once someone's beloved pet - for one reason or another, finding itself out on the streets to fend for itself. We initially started out with the idea of people networking together to help each other as we cared for our feral colonies - providing daily feedings, shelter and medical attention - including sterilization and vaccinations. Our efforts continue with this - and because of it we have become a strongly recognized community service in our area - have gained non-profit status - and we visit the local schools to teach the children about responsible pet ownership and about life in the feral colonies. Even though we work mostly with the feral colonies, we are not exclusive to cats - we have helped place several dogs, a ferret, rabbits, and birds. If you were in the vicinity of Wendy's on Alps Road in Branford, you would have witnessed two members rescuing an injuried seagull! The bird was netted, placed in a carrier and taken to a rehabilitator where the bird will heal and then be set free again.

Adopting a friend

Please consider adopting a new friend. Colony cats and kittens were, in many cases, abandoned animals. We ask for a donation to help offset medical expenses incurred. All animals up for adoption have received vaccinations, are spayed or neutered, treated for fleas and ear mites and tested for feline AIDS and leukemia. To adopt, please call Mary at (203) 315-3795.
