Our ultimate goal is to teach "Responsible Pet Ownership" through public education. We speak frequently at local schools, daycares, libraries and civic groups. We believe that by educating our youth at an early age we can prevent future mistreatment and abuse of animals. We focus on "Bite Prevention", 4.7 Million people are bitten in the United States each year. The most common and most severe bites are to children. Educating children on the proper way to approach a dog is just as important as the proper care and treatment of a dog.
Hours
Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
There is an officer on call during all other hours to handle emergencies.
FEES
The State of Connecticut has an adoption program up and running. The cost of adoption at this time is $45.00, plus a $5.00 sale of pet fee for a total of $50.00 for each unaltered animal. The $45.00 fee includes a voucher for alteration of the animal and shots. The new owner assumes all future veterinary fees and agrees to spay or neuter the dog.
Policies
All roaming dogs picked up by our office are scanned and checked for tags or tattoos. Every effort is made to reunite the dog with its owner. If the dog is not claimed after seven days the dog is put up for adoption. New owners are screened to make sure proper care of the animal will take place. Making sure that both the new owner and the dog are right for each other is our utmost goal.
