About Us...

Meriden Animal Control, a division of the Meriden Police Department, enforces state statue and local ordinances governing animal law.
When a dog is taken into custody by an Animal Control Officer, as per state law, an ad is placed in our local paper with the animals description and the location where the dog was found, to help an owner locate their dog. Seven (7) days from the placement of the ad if the dog has not been claimed by it's owner it would be available for adoption at that time. Dogs are only euthanized on a need to be basis. Unless it is completly necessary we do our best to place these homeless animals. PLEASE NOTE: WE ARE NOT THE MERIDEN HUMANE SOCIETY. WE ARE LOCATED IN THE SAME BUILDING BUT MHS IS A SHELTER & RESCUE-THEY ARE A PRIVATELY RUN ORGANIZATION. MERIDEN ANIMAL CONTROL (MAC) IS A CITY RUN POUND. OUR ANIMALS ARE HOUSED SEPARATELY. PLEASE SEE ALL ADOPTABLE MHS DOGS AND CATS HERE: http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/meridenhs.html

Adopting a friend

Our hours of operation are 8:00am to 4:00pm. Our Viewing hours are 3:00 to 4:00 pm daily because we have no one in the office during the day and we are on routine patrol .

All dogs are adopted out on a first come first serve basis. If you would like to adopt from the Meriden Animal Control please contact us at (203)235-4179 .

Adoption Fee:

As a result of the reinstatement of the Animal Population Control Program our adoption fee is currently $50 for all CT residents and $5.00 for out of state residents. The $50 includes our $5 adoption fee and $45 fee for a spay/nueter voucher . This voucher, which can be used at participating veterinarians, will help defray some of the costs of spaying or neutering the adopted pet. The voucher also entitles the new owner to two (2) vaccinations to be determined by the veterinarian.
