We are the Friends of the New Haven Animal Shelter, a group of volunteers dedicated to helping find responsible, loving homes for the animals in our care. We hope to make the New Haven Animal Shelter the first place residents think of when they decide to adopt an animal. Our Featured Pets

Janet #865

Featured cat
If this picture doesn't appear, click your "reload" or "refresh" button.

Four-year-old Janet is a spunky girl. She has an outgoing personality. She will slap you to play, but no claws are used. She appears to be one of those really fun cats who will play hide-and-go-seek with you and chase you around the house.

Appear # 550

Featured dog
If this picture doesn't appear, click your "reload" or "refresh" button.

You can watch a video of Appear on youtube. Two-year-old Appear is a loving dog that needs a dependable home. He had been to the shelter on two occasions when he was found roaming the neighborhood. He was recently left in our dog run and his owner did not come for him. He was very scared being left in the starnge place overnight so he was not happy when the staff arrived to bring him inside. Once he realized we knew him and called him by his name he began to beg for attention. He enjoys playing with a rope toy but refuses to give it up so tug of war is probably not the best game to play with him, he can entertain himself with it. He knows some basic commands and should be reminded not to jump up to give kisses. He should live with a mature family.

Stacia #549

Featured cat
If this picture doesn't appear, click your "reload" or "refresh" button.

You can see Stacia's video on youtube. One-year-old Stacia is a lovely girl that is a bit temperamental. She loves attention but becomes overstimulated quickly so she should live with someone that is experienced with cats. She does not like other animals.

Major #522

Featured cat
If this picture doesn't appear, click your "reload" or "refresh" button.

Two-year-old Major has no place to live. His owner had him and Precious tied out in a vacant lot attached to electrical cords as leashes. The owners grandmother would not allow the dogs in her house so they were essentially homeless. Major is a big crybaby mush that enjoys atttention and is eager to please.

NO APPOINTMENTS NEEDED. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING ANY ONE OF THESE PETS, PLEASE VISIT THE SHELTER TUESDAY - SATURDAY 12:30 - 4:30 OR CALL THE SHELTER AT (203) 946-8110. All of our cats are FIV/LEK tested neg, vaccinated, and in most cases altered prior to adoption. All dogs are vaccinated, and in most cases altered prior to adoption. In-State Fee $80 cash only. Out-of State Fee (no voucher) $35 cash only. Proof of homeownership required (mortgage statement, tax bill) or landlord approval required for renters. We require that your dog meet our dog so bring him/her/them along.
