WHO WE ARE

Animals for Life is a no-kill animal shelter located in Middlebury Connecticut. We adopt homeless cats and dogs into loving families. Every pet in our care receives a veterinary examination, vaccinations and is spayed or neutered prior to adoption.

If you are interested in adopting a dog, please visit the shelter in Middlebury. We have dogs and puppies of many ages, sizes and breeds who are awaiting adoption! We have several cats and kittens at the shelter and generally have a few additional cats and kittens in foster care. Please check the Adopting A Pet section of our website for more details!

DO YOU LOVE ANIMALS? IF SO, WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!

We are always in need of new volunteers who can contribute to our life-saving work! There are many ways for you to get involved -- walking a shelter dog, helping a young puppy or kitten to get used to human hands, fostering a cat or helping us to plan our next fun event. For more information on how you can help, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Patrick Lydem via email at volunteer@animalsforlifect.org

UPCOMING ADOPTION EVENTS:

In addition to our weekly shelter hours (Thursdays 5-7pm, Saturdays & Sundays 12-3pm), Animals for Life frequently holds offsite adoption events. Animals for Life generally closes the shelter on the first Sunday of each month in order to introduce our animals to the people in different communities throughout the region. These adoptions are held in conjunction with the Northshore Animal League's Mobile Adoption Units. Join us on Sunday, June 7th at the Natural and Organic Pet on Rt. 64 in Middlebury from 11am-3pm. We will have many dogs and cats of all ages available for adoption! Just look for the Northshore Animal League Adoption Van in the parking area and stop in to say hello! Please note that the shelter will be closed on Sunday as the animals will be travelling with us for the day.

ADOPTING A FRIEND

We have loveable animals of all ages, sizes, and colors just waiting to find their new families! Please read the following adoption information before visiting the shelter for the first time...

- All of our prospective adopters must fill out an adoption application and review the application with one of our adoption counselors.

- We request that all members of a family be present at the time of application. We require written permission from the landlord in the event that an adopter rents his/her residence.

- We also check veterinarian references and may make a home visit either before or after a pet is adopted. We do not ship any animal.

- We try very hard to make the best possible match between your home and one of our pets, so we do reserve the right to deny any application. We also will accept multiple applications on the same animal in an effort to find it the best home.

- We do remain available for assistance and follow-up advice after a pet goes to a new home.

- Our adoption fee for dogs over 6 months of age is $175.00. Puppies under 6 months of age are adopted out at $275.00 These fees include all age-appropriate shots and all dogs will be spayed or neutered prior to adoption.

- The adoption fee for cats and kittens is $100.00. These fees include all age-appropriate shots and spaying or neutering. No cat will be released without first being spayed or neutered. The cats are also tested for FeLV and FIV.

- No animal will be "reserved" for any family until their application has been approved for a particular animal. Our adoption fees are crucial to us being able to continue our work, and so therefore are not refundable.

PLEASE NOTE: The descriptions of our animals are based on the observations of our volunteers and do not guarantee breed, age, health, or temperament.
