Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.
I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the overworked shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.
As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life.
She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.
Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.
I would promise to keep her safe.
I would promise to always be by her side.
I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.
I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

Our dogs are fostered with families throughout New England: we do not have a central shelter. Please email us and we can let you know where the dog is located. Also, please have patience when awaiting word on an application: our rescue is made up of volunteers with full time jobs and families and we contact people as quickly as we can: we appreciate your patience ! Our mission is to find loving homes for the dogs that we rescue. In the southern states where we find our dogs, the laws do not favor animal rights. Abandoned, stray and unwanted dogs are often euthanized after just a 3 day stay at a shelter due to lack of room. Many of these dogs are sweet and loving animals. But they have been left to roam, are lost with no one trying to find them, or are dumped on the side of the road due to lack of owner commitment.
All of our posted dogs are living in our network of foster homes in the south and in New England, being lovingly cared for while they await their forever homes. Their fosters have the chance to observe them in all sorts of situations: with children, other dogs and cats..so that we can determine if a dog has any issues that would make it suitable for only certain types of homes.
We also offer a foster to adopt program for approved applicants who are interested.
How to Adopt a Dog
Our goal is to find our dogs permanent loving homes where they will be treated as a member of the family for the rest of their lives. As such, we will be happy to work with you to help you find the right dog for your family. Our adoption fees include transportation, veterinarian fees, spay/neuter procedures. Please email us to request an application: as we are all volunteers we must have you fill out an application prior to getting in depth information on our dogs. We will get back to everyone in a timely manner and will process your application and call you. Please be sure to contact your vet to give them permission to speak with us. Part of our approval process may involve a home visit to discuss adoption with you and your family: this would be set up at your convenience.
Once you have been approved to adopt by phone or email, you can use this paypal button to place your deposit or full adoption donation.
