RABIES VACCINATION CLINIC
Saturday, May 6th; 2-4 PM

Friends of the Shelton Animal Shelter is hosting our annual Rabies vaccination clinic on Saturday May 6th from 2-4 PM at the EMS building on Meadow Street. Rabies vaccinations are $12 per pet -- cash only. All pets must be leashed or in secure carriers. Certificate of prior vaccination (doesn't need to be current) is necessary to obtain 3 year certification. Pets without proof of prior vaccination will be certified for one year only.

Friends of the Shelton Animal Shelter would like to thank the doctors and staff of Countryside Veterinary Hospital for donating their time at this important fundraiser and community event. All proceeds will benefit the homeless animals in Shelton through Friends of the Shelton Animal Shelter. Please come and support this hard-working, all volunteer organization!

Who We Are

Friends of the Shelton Animal Shelter, established in 1996, is a nonprofit organization composed entirely of volunteers. Our aim is to help slow the alarming reproduction rate by neutering as many animals as possible, as well as promoting homeless animals for adoption into permanent, responsible, loving homes. We are also working very hard to improve the conditions at the city animal shelter, with the hope of providing a better quality of life for its temporary charges.

We have placed a huge emphasis on population control; not only by providing for the neutering of animals awaiting adoption at the shelter, but also through our involvement with Tait's Every Animal Matters (TEAM) to offer low cost neutering of stray and feral cats.

Our group has provided for the vaccination, medical care, and neutering of hundreds of animals. We have also provided temporary foster homes for many cats who otherwise would have been destroyed, as the city's animal shelter currently does not have facilities to house cats. Our long term goal is to see the shelter facility either expanded or rebuilt to better accommodate the many needy animals in our community.

We are working to establish our "Hands On" program with the benefit of a grant from the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven, which will enable volunteers to work directly with the animals at the Shelton Animal Shelter. We believe that this program will benefit not only the animals, but also the local youth and the community as a whole.

We are a fairly new and rapidly growing organization with a great deal on the agenda. We always welcome new members and new ideas. Feel free to pitch in — the animals need us!

Adopting a Friend

We try very hard to match the right pet with the right family. Therefore, we ask a lot of questions when we interview prospective adopters. We are completely honest about all of our pets. We'll tell you everything we know about them. All animals are neutered before they leave us, examined by a veterinarian, appropriate bloodwork is done and vaccinations are given. There is a minimum donation of $50, which is tax deductible and used to help defray veterinary costs. Our animals come with a "lifetime guarantee", but we won't place them unless you're seriously committed to making it work.

All of these animals deserve that "special someone" who is willing and able to provide a lifetime of love and care. They need and deserve to be family members, they have so much love to give! You will get back from them a thousand times what you give.
