PLEASE DONATE TO HELP JUNO Please see Juno's picture on our Pet Home Page Juno needs help in order to ensure he gets the surgery and treatment he needs. Won’t you please consider a donation to this sweet boy? Juno was found lying in the middle of a busy road, the victim of a hit and run driver who obviously gave no thought to the terrible fear and pain of this precious dog left to die of shock and injury. Luckily for Juno, a good samaritan found him and rushed him to an emergency vet for care. Radiographs reveal that both of Juno’s front legs are broken in multiple places, his right foot is crushed and all of his toes broken. Juno suffered head trauma that left his upper gums separated from the roof of his mouth as well. Regardless of the terrible injuries he has suffered, this sweet boy has been all tail wags and smiles for his rescuer and the doctors that are caring for him. Juno is going to require extensive care; multiple surgical procedures, and physical therapy. Please help to ensure that he gets everything he needs to recover and live a happy life in a loving home. Juno’s medical costs are estimated at $4,500.00 even with rescue discounts. No donation is too small and all are greatly appreciated! Donations can be sent to Double Dog Rescue, PO Box 268, Harwinton CT 06791. Please reference in your note that the donation is for Juno. Thank you. UPDATE March 8, 2009 Both legs have now been set with metal plates ands pins. Juno is weak, but much improved and is trying to bear weight on both legs, which is a wonderful sign. The dead tissue around his gums has been removed and they are adhering naturally to the roof of his mouth. He has some nerve damage and will probably always have a 'grin' as a result, but he is eating canned food very well and the tissue in his mouth is healing. He has rods that exit his shoulder on the left side which can be tightened or loosened as needed to control the rigidity of the pins, as soon as those can be removed and his stitches taken out, he will require several weeks of physical therapy. He still has a long road ahead but he is doing very well all considered. FANTASTIC NEWS ! DOUBLE DOG RESCUE NOW HAS A SOUTHERN SITE ! *** URGENT*** We are in desperate need for foster homes. We do not have enough places to keep many dogs. Please inquire with any of our volunteers about fostering.

Our dogs are fostered in homes throughout the New England area. We do not have a central facility that you can visit to see our dogs. We are a strictly volunteer group that works together to save dogs and we are scattered across the area. We welcome visits between adopters and dogs but do be aware that they may be located in any number of places throughout New England. If you have questions about a dog, please contact the person listed on that pets petfinder page. We receive several e-mails everyday while working full-time jobs, so please be patient.

When adopting a dog from any shelter, sign up for Shelter Care Intro. It only costs $1 for the first month. This will protect your dog and cut down vet costs. Visit www.sheltercare.com/land/sheltercareintro.html

Please consider reading one of Cesar Millan's books. It is a great guide to understand and correct common dog problems.

Who We Are

NO PHONE CALLS PLEASE - WE ARE NOT A SHELTER FACILITY

Inspired by our own dogs that we have rescued, we are two sisters who decided to establish a rescue group in the northeast for the thousands of dogs who are euthanized daily. We work directly with a partner group. This group pulls dogs from the kill shelters based on their personality, health and overall temperament. Our goal is to find homes for these dogs who have either been abandoned, neglected or abused.

WE DO NOT HAVE A RESCUE FACILITY.

Adopting a friend

If you are interested in adopting one of our furry friends we ask that you complete an application (which we will forward to you.) or copy and paste the link https://share.acrobat.com/adc/adc.do?app=org. We also require a vet reference check and a home visit when possible. Some of our dogs require fenced in yards while others do not. APPLICATION: https://share.acrobat.com/adc/adc.do?app=org

Come Visit Us!

We do not have a rescue facility, however we do board dogs locally and have foster homes. Please only contact the person who name is attached to the dog you are interested in. The name associated with each dog is the only person who can give you information about that dog.
