DOG OF THE MONTH IS COOPER!!!
Cooper is a Chihuahua mix...mixed with what we have no idea! All we do know is that in the time he has been here, he has clearly become a staff favorite. At just under 18 pounds he is the perfect size and even though he was found as a stray on the streets on NYC he appears to be totally housebroken. After being with us for a couple of months now, he has really come out of his shell and is a great dog that deserves a forever home. He is on the quiet side and really would just love to have a warm lap to sit on and an owner to rub behind his ears. He is now about 2 and a half years old, neutered, and up to date on all of his shots. He really is the perfect dog--not too demanding but always ready to receive and give out love. Please come meet this wonderful guy and give him the forever home that he deserves.
OUR CAT OF THE MONTH IS MichealI!!!
Michael is an adorable young cat. He is just about 1 year old and full of young cat playfulness. All is really wants is an owner to love him. If you are looking for a cat as a true companion then Michael is the cat for you. He really just wants to be with people. He would also do well with another playful cat. Please come meet Michael, as he is a real love and he deserves a home to love him back!!
Please check this website daily as things can change frequently. We are currently looking for volunteers and foster homes. All our listed pets are available unless otherwise noted.
Who We Are
Save Our Strays, Inc. is a non profit animal welfare organization that was founded by Dr. Joan Poster over 10 years ago. We are committed to the welfare of all the animals in our care and community. Our goal is to rescue and place as many previously abandoned pets in loving permanent homes as possible. Our facility operates out of Poster Animal Hospital which is located in Westport, CT. Dr. Poster has a "hands-on" commitment to every one of our animals. Our lucky rescues receive the best of medical care along with lots of love from Dr. Poster's wonderful, compassionate staff as well as time with our dedicated volunteers!
Adopting a friend - The Process
Save Our Strays takes our responsibility to all the animals seriously. We hope that as you review the following information you will understand, appreciate and support why we feel such a process is necessary. We prefer to adopt within the state of Connecticut.
The prospective adopter must complete an adoption application and leave a $25 non-refundable application fee by either CASH or CREDIT CARD ONLY to check references. The $25 goes toward the adoption donation for the animal. We will also need to see proof of Identity. An interview with an adoption coordinator and the prospective adopter and his/her family is required.
We will verify vet references and need proof of landlord permission (if applicable).
We would like to advise you that the whole adoption process can take anywhere from an hour to a few days, depending on the circumstances.
Lastly, a non refundable adoption donation will be requested. This helps to cover the cost of the medical care, feeding and boarding of our animals.
The donation fees are as follows:
Adult cats - $100.00
Kittens - $150.00
All dogs - $250.00
All donations must be paid by either cash or credit card.
All our adoptees are current on age required immunizations and spayed or neutered before placement, unless their health or age requires it be done at a later time.
NOTE: As a general rule, we cannot hold animals for anyone. If you are interested in a particular pet, you need to ensure that you are available to see that pet as soon as it is ready for adoption.
Please be advised that unless other arrangements have been made with an S.O.S representative these are the ONLY times that you would be able to meet with one of our pets. We make every effort to return your messages in a timely manner but we ask that you take in to consideration that the hours listed above are the only times that an S.O.S. representative is guaranteed to be available.
