Charleston is a 5 month old male Labrador Retriever/Spaniel mix and one of 5 puppies taken into foster from a local shelter after being abandoned along a dead end road. He was far underweight but now weighs over 35 lbs and is healthy and active. Sadly, these sweet puppies were scared and fearful and it has taken some work to socialize them with people..but they have quickly come around. They are very affectionate and love to play with their foster family now. They have done some crate training at night and now spend our warm spring days romping energetically in their new fenced play yard. They play very well with the other foster dogs...and love to their toys. These older puppies will be great companions for those who love the outdoors as they will have the energy to happily keep up. Charleston has been neutered and is UTD on all required puppy vaccines.
Charleston's tax deductible adoption fee is $375.00 and will cover his current vetting and future transportation from Arkansas to the New England area. For more information or an application, contact Jay Reeves at pinkie_jay@hotmail.com. Please include a phone number in case of email issues
Secondhand Hounds has many older puppies and young adult dogs available for adoption at this time. Please don't let their age stop you from adopting them. There are benefits to adopting an dog that is not a puppy. They have matured into their own personalities, what you see is what you get, no suprises as the puppy matures. Also, they can be left alone for longer stretches of time, and you are able to get a full night's sleep. Young adults are out of the puppy chewing stage and your house can breathe a sigh of relief as the moldings and carpets are safe from chewing or accidents. It is a common misconception that adult dogs don't bond as well as puppies. That IS NOT true at all, a 8 week old puppy will bond just as well as a 13 year old dog. So, please when you are looking at the list of adoptable pets, please look at the young adults available, and make the choice based on best match for you and your family, and not the cuteness or age of the dog.
PLEASE NOTE THAT SECONDHAND HOUSE DOES NOT HAVE A PHYSICAL SHELTER WHERE YOU CAN COME AND MEET THE PUPS. MOST ARE LOCATED IN FOSTER HOMES IN ARKANSAS AND WHEN THEY ARE ADOPTED, THEY ARE THEN TRANSPORTED TO NEW ENGLAND TO THEIR FOREVER HOMES. ON OCCASSION THERE IS A DOG LOCATED IN CT, IF THAT IS THE CASE YOU WILL SEE IN CT NEXT TO THE DOGS NAME.
