Despite its high priced zip code, the shelter is anything but fancy, or new! Constructed in 1957, the small cinderblock building is badly deteriorated. Dogs, cats, and other critters are forced to share the same kenneling area, resulting in very stressful living conditions. The facility also lacks air conditioning, has asbestos contamination, and is not up-to-code.
Thankfully, the Bruce Museum (whose land the shelter currently occupies) has formed a committee with Greenwich Animal Control to raise money for a new facility. The committee is called Shelter Our Strays.
Greenwich Animal Control enforces local laws pertaining to the keeping of dogs, cats and other animals. In addition, it supervises animal adoptions when pets are not claimed by their owners. When the owner does not come forward and cannot be located, the animal is cared for and evaluated to determine if it is eligible for adoption to a suitable home.

Visiting hours at the Animal Control facility are 8am to 2:30pm, Monday thru Friday, and weekends by appointment. It is highly recommended that you make an appointment with an animal control officer before visiting. The officer on duty might have to respond to a call and animals would not be viewable at that time. To make an appointment, call: (203)622-8299 or 622-8081.
Greenwich Animal Control is located on Museum Drive, just east of the Bruce Museum’s parking lot. It is the small building up on the hill. Please call to make an appointment before you visit: (203)622-8299 or 622-8081.
