Due to budget restraints, we are no longer advertising found pets in the New London Day newspaper. This is an expense we can no longer afford. We will only be advertising in the Westerly Sun newspaper as they run our ads for free. It is important that you call us if your pet is missing.

Who We Are
We are a division of the Stonington Police Department. A municipal organization dedicated to enforcing the Animal Control Laws of the Town of Stonington and the State of Connecticut. We do not accept unwanted animals or stray and feral cats. We are not a no-kill shelter. Time is limited for unclaimed animals. Please help us find these animals a home before their time is up!
Adopting a friend
The adoption fee for CT residents that adopt a pet will be $50.00 under the State Animal Population Program. This will include a certificate for spay/neuter and for two shots. If a veterinarian finds that the animal has already been spayed or neutered, adoptees may apply to the State of CT, Dept. of Agriculture, for a $45.00 reimbursement. We accept adoptees outside of CT but they do not qualify for the State Animal Population Program. Adoptees outside of CT pay a $5.00 adoption fee. If you are visiting the dog pound with the intention of adopting an animal you must bring a cat carrier or dog leash with you. We do not provide these items for you.
CT State Animal Response Team
We are currently looking for people who are willing to volunteer their time in the event of an animal related emergency. Willing volunteers will become a member of CT SART and may be deployed in the event of a disaster. CT SART members will be required to sign a code of conduct that dictates a standard of behavior. Members will also be required to attend CERT Training free of charge (Community Emergency Response Team). The CERT Training takes about 20 hours to complete. Contact us for the next scheduled class. Finally, members will be required to take 6 free on-line training courses through FEMA. IS100, IS200, IS700, IS800, IS10-Animals in Disaster Module A, and IS-11 Animals in Disaster Module B. These courses are available free of charge at www.training.fema.gov FEMA independent study courses. Each FEMA course takes an average of 4 or 5 hours to complete. Although you may envision yourself saving a near-drowned dog from the roof of a house in the aftermath of a hurricane, the reality is that most CT SART members will not be actively rescuing animals. Most likely you will be taking photos of animals, running intake of found animals, providing care for sheltered animals, and completing paperwork. We want you to realize this to prevent future disappointment. We are in greatest need of people who do have specialized animal experience such as veterinary technicians for example. Contact ACO Rae-Jean Davis at the phone # or e-mail at the end of this web page if you are interested in learning more about becoming part of the team. Please note that becoming part of the team does not require you to respond to all emergencies.
