OUR ADOPTABLE DOGS AND CATS

Waggin' Tails That Were Adopted

Who We Are

East Hartford Animal Control rescues dogs that have gotten loose or abandoned by their owners. The dogs are taken to Conn. Trail Kennels in Bolton, CT (East Hartford has no animal shelter). Conn. Trail Kennels is owned and operated by Cpt. (USAF Ret.) Rocky O. Smith. After 7days, if a dog is not claimed, it may be adopted out to the general public. Cpt. Rocky and his volunteers strive to place their animals in committed, loving and pet-responsible homes. Pet stays at the kennel are limited, though. Did you know that 5,000,000+ healthy dogs and cats are euthanized in the U.S. each year due to lack of homes? Please consider rescuing an already-homeless animal first, while millions are dying. Capt. Rocky has 18 years experience with dogs, and his volunteers will help you any way they can to help you find the right dog for your situation.

~~Adopting Our Dogs~~

The adoption fees for each dog will vary depending on the breed and current medical status, but will be indicated in their description. Adoption fees are needed for medical care, food, shelter and advertising. We want you to be happy and successful with a dog that you adopt from us and will help you to ensure a successful match. We also give free of charge, the book entitled, "Second Hand Dog," a short, easy-to-read book that greatly assists with helping you and your newly adopted dog settle in together.

**HOW YOU CAN HELP**

DOG WALKERS NEEDED!!! Volunteers are always needed to help walk the dogs. Age 18 or older would be great, and retirees are welcome, so that the dogs can be walked during the day as well during weekdays. The dogs need to be exercised and really enjoy the human companionship they so greatly miss while being displaced. It also warms your heart to know you are making a big difference in a dog's life while it temporarily is without a home, not to mention the health benefits for us humans getting off our duffs and getting our hearts pumping!!
