Our Featured Pet...

...Please see all the pups we have listed as well as the adults....it is hard for most people up here to beleive how many dogs and puppies are KILLED DAILY due to the pet overpopulation....especially down South, where we work with a few shelters...it is not unusual for them to take in 50-70 dogs and puppies EVERY DAY during the summer months....guess what happens to the ones that rescue can"t take????................PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD TO ADOPT AND DO NOT BUY FROM PET SHOPS AND BACK YARD BREEDERS!!..............................Pls go to www.puppymillrescue.com to read and see the videos behind the scenes of these "breeders" from out of state. Everyone who thinks they are buying from a "breeder" out of state should be informed of these practices...........I..... I ADOPT ONLY TO THE MOST LOVING AND RESPONSIBLE HOMES WITH THE FINANCIAL ABILITY TO CARE FOR THESE DOGS THE REST OF THEIR LIFE. .......Yes, I am VERY fussy but I am the ONLY advocate for these defenseless animals that society has chosen to forget or kill at the pound.

Since we go thru about 500 lbs a month just in dry food, and we only feed premium food as everyone knows, that was a HUGE blessing! Thank you John, and to my best friends and volunteers DAVE and APRIL (DIAMOND and Tyco) from NY, who helped with the transport of the food, and our dearest SAL,(the famous ELVIS, SADIE, SAVANNA) who drove the rest of the way, and for his MUCH appreciated building of a hot water closet in the barn so that we have running hot water even when it is below freezing-what a gorgeous job he did-you are the best! (Sal also helped me with the sad story of SAMMY the Bridgeport Rottie, whom we saved with the help of Barabara and funding from Bikers Against Animal Cruelty, but was too far gone and loaded with cancer when we took her to my vet,.Sal was with me for her send off with TLC and love to the Rainbow Bridge. ).......THANK YOU FOR THE GENEROUS DONATIONS FROM---Susan from Stonington who helped pay for the gravel and vet bills, ANITA and DENNIS who always come to the rescue for my always present vet bills!!!....TOM and DAVID from MASS-all the Wellness food and all the gorgeous lines--thank you! I myself suffered a very severe asthma attack last week and have been most grateful for the help of AMANDA -who really knows thedogs and the horses and the daily routine by now!!!! .....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................I sincerely apologize if I have forgotten anyone!..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................WINTER NEWS- After having had Rudybear, the long hair Rottie male we saved from the Shelton pound back in June, we have decided he will remain here as a PERM RESCUE..... Sadly he only recvd 2 decent adoption inquiries, neither being just the right home for him. Additionally he has a kidney infection which we are treating, this coming AFTER we treated him for Heartworm Disease!!! .............We had quite the scare with our own dog KITTY, famous to all who visit us here, when she started having diarrhea-makingm e worry her severe Inflammatory Bowel Disease was recurring. Thankfully, she is better now. Our handicapped neurologic "pupyy", Angel, is still with us holding her own, despite her disease progressing. We DID hold a fundraiser for her and purchased a wheelcahir cart for her toenalbe her to walk aorund outside like a normal dog. She really enjoys her time outside stading upright!!...Becaseu Angel requires round the clock care, she nees help to walk outside and support to go to the bathroom, and she must be fed and watereed carefully so she doesn't aspirate food or water into her lungs, I have been most preoccupied with her care and thus have not been able to take any more dogs in. However she is so happy and painfree and a joy. She barks in her own way sounding like a seal to tell us hen she has to go out and go potty, and loves sleeping on the couch next to her favorite human, her Dad Roger..............................Our newest "child" volunteer, Julie, is a very dedicated young lady who loves dogs, just like our best first "child" volunteer, Alexa, whom we miss dearly!!!!...............TO ALL MY ADOPTERS------....................................I have heard form SO MANY OF YOU!!! Thank you all for sending the notes, emails, cards and pics! ANd those of you who have visited us with your doggies! We love seeing you all!!!!!! It makes all the hard work and personal and financial sacrifice worth it to hear how much you all love your adopted doggies................ I love getting each and every one! i I cannot dare to list everyone's names....but-I really treaure each and every one of you!!! Unfortuntaly, I run out of time every day and next thing i know it is a new month! But pls, keep in touch!!!,,,,,,I keep ALLLLLL the pics and notes you send!!!!................ We took ANGEL to Julie's school for a presentationshe was working on for community service, and showed the kids there how Angel uses her cart-thank you Julie for sponsoring the fundraiser-you are a future leader!!......................... In January, we rescued HENRY form his last day on Death Row from Hartford Pound. Thanks to another rescue friend, Sue, Henry is in the best foster home now with Cathy-thank you for caring for him!! PLs read all about Henry on our list of adoptables.....................................................................,,,,We had a REAL NORMAL NITE OUT OF FUN!! when good friends and volunteers Cindy and Dave (Cooper, Hanna, Bear) came down to the casino and we all had a fun nite out for dinner! Too bad they, as are most of you- SO FAR from us!!!!!!!! We also had a visit from one of our "frequent visitors Kali-Mandy, who came to stay early Jan...she was adopted from us 3 yrs ago! and loves coming here.. .......................In December, we got a huge truckload of gravel so we could fill in the drive area where we move the dogs pens forthe winter, to try to keep them neat and out of mud. Well as our luck would have it, the next day it snowed-and snowed and snowed-so..everything got frozen into the ground......and pens are now stuck in mud and frozen ground!...Winters are alwasy teh worst time here becaseu I wish it would just snow and stay cold sothe ground freezes. Instead, think about how it warms up for a few days, the ground thaws, the mud churns up, then it ices and freezes again, then turns to mud when it rains, etc.................Multiply this weather by 48 paws and 13 bellies that need to be either wiped off EVERY TIME they come back in the house or they are so filthy they need to be hosed of with the warm water from the barn hose-thanks to SAL!!!!!!!...and then they all get toweled off....the dog laundry is higher than MT Everest! We just can't keep up even doing laundry daily!! CINDY broought us BOXES of linens and waterproof pads which we are using up like crazy! Dog beds have a short life around here!!.................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. .....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,NEWS FLASH FOR ALL FUTURE AND PREVIOUS ADOPTERS---we are now offering FREE a dog training DVD, endorsed by the Humane Society, to assist you in training your adopted dogs using positive, humane, fun methods! the only kind we use here!!!!! email me asap for your free DVD!!!! ........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Who We Are

Founded by Cathy Leinert in Sept 2000, dedicated to the rescue and rehab of abandoned, abused, and neglected Rottweilers, with the goal of finding permannt loving homes for the dogs after they have received veterinary care and socialization. Cathy Leinert has devoted her time, energy, love and money to the protection and rehabilitation of Rottweilers. She has over 25 years working and training Rotts and numerous titles and certifications attesting to her unwavering committement to this magnificent breed. As a private non-profit organization, it is funded almost entirely by her own funds, supplemented by donations and adoption fees. She credits her hardworking, understanding and equally Rottweiler-loving husband for the continued success of the rescue. She is most grateful to her loyal and equally dedicated volunteers who help with all the duties: EILEEN, ANNE, LISA, SAL and DIANNE, APRIL and DAVE, TARA , DEANNA, AMANDA ..... the very best child volunteers ALEXA and JULIE , SHARON who is the EXECUTIVE COORDINATOR for everything with the dogs, and the best husband ever, ROGER!!!!! .............................................................................. Any dog evaluated and taken into rescue is assured of a permanent home here: if he-she isn't adopted, we also operate as a Rottweiler sanctuary , on a limited basis. Euthanasia is reserved for aggressive and dangerous dogs only. Please consider helping to support the rescue!

Adopting a friend

If you are interested in adopting, EMAIL ME WITH THE FOLLOWING PRELIMINARY INFORMATION--family members and ages, other pets, your work schedules, your home type,OWN OR RENT, yard, fencing, your EXPERIENCE with dogs and ESPECIALLY WITH ROTTIES, reason for adopting, and any other information to show what a good home you can provide......................I will then email you the adoption application which includes personal and vet references, and we require a home check.-looking for a safe home, not a fancy one. I would like you to visit the dog 3x, unless we determine otherwise because of distance. (I want my dogs to feel that they are going home with a friend, not a stranger.) The requested adoption donation is $375-$425, and all dogs are up to date on vax, heartworm prev, and spayed/altered. ............ PUPPIES have a MANDATORY FOSTER-NEUTER AGREEMENT.,if they are not already neutered........ (Please note that this fee doesn't even begin to cover the actual costs incurred.) YES, I LOVE MY DOGS AND AM VERY PARTICULAR ABOUT THE HOMES THEY GO TO!!...............PREVIOUS ADOPTERS ALWAYS GET FIRST CHOICE AS DO PRE-APPROVED ADOPTERS!!!!!!!!!!

Come Visit Us!

"I expect to passs through life but once. If, therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do for any fellow being, let me do it now..as I shall not pass this way again" William Penn............................................................... ........................................................................................................................... Today's Daily Word - Friday, February 27, 2009 Animal Blessing God's creatures, large and small, enrich our lives and our world. God has blessed people the world over with a diversity of animals. Whether they are in the wild, on farms, or in our homes, we accept and cherish animals as God intended them to be: our helpers. Modern equipment has replaced the work previously done by some animals; however, their beauty, resourcefulness, and companionship continue to enhance our lives. Whether we work with, care for, or are observers of animals and their activities, we give thanks that God created such remarkable creatures. As our companions or therapy pets, as creatures that help maintain a vital balance in nature, animals enrich our lives and our world. "Then the Lord God said, 'It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner.' So out of the ground the Lord God formed every animal of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them."--Genesis 2:18-19
