About Us...

We are a not-for-profit no-kill animal shelter and rescue facility. Many of our animals are taken from high risk situations such as kill pounds, cruelty investigations, and private residents who can no longer care for their animals. Our organization is privately run and is supported solely on donations from the public. From all of us here at M.H.S. we thank you for your continued support for our animals.

For articles on the world of animal sheltering, animal spotlights, event information, and more, please visit our new blog. Please have patience as we get it up and running, but expect new posts.

To make a safe, online donation to the Meriden Humane Society click on the Paypal button below. Thank you for helping us save lives.

Saturday 12pm-6pm
Sunday 12pm-6pm

We are closed to the public Monday and Tuesday, but our lobby is always open for donation drop offs or to pick up information.

Hours are subject to change due to fundraisers, weather and staffing. Dogs can be viewed in their out door enclosures, weather pending.

Appointments can be made

Adoption Process

We have applications for both our cats and dogs that potential adopters must fill out. You can email us for the application request which can be sent by email, or fax, and applications are always avalible at our facility.

WE WILL BE APPROVING APPLICATIONS SAME DAY IN MOST CASES (for cats and kittens only)! If you rent or lease you need to bring your lease agreement or a letter from your landlord okaying adoption.

Feline applications take anywhere from 1 to 2 days to process although we try and process them as quickly as possible.

Canine applications take 1 to 3 days to process, if there are other dogs in the family a interaction must be conducted before adoption. All members of the household must come and meet the dog. An application must be completed before a dog can be interacted with, but dogs can be viewed in their outdoor pens most days weather pending

We do this to make sure that this is the proper match for you and our dog. Many of our dogs come from abusive or neglectful situations and often have issues we try and solve before adoptions, but to make sure that this will be a forever adoption we go to many lengths to screen homes
