Pet of the Month
**THIS PET IS IN PRIVATE FOSTER CARE AND NOT LOCATED AT THE MANSFIELD ANIMAL SHELTER**
Star is a 9 week old spayed female Australian Cattle Dog pup. She is a typical cattle dog pup with lots of energy and will need lots of socialization and training.
She came from a shelter in Ohio with her two siblings and we will be looking for experienced dog homes only. This is not a first time dog owners dog. She is sweet, yet sassy and will need someone committed to training her, exercising and plenty of mental stimuation. These are smart dogs and like activity that uses their brain as well as their body. They make great hiking companions, agility & frisbee sport dogs as well working farm dogs if trained properly.
Please do your breed research as many breeds are not suitable to all types of lifestyles. Herding breeds are often very energetic, highly intelligent and need lots of exercise and training. They are working dogs bred to do a "job" and most will not be content to sit around on a couch all day. You can read about the Australian Cattle Dog (heeler) on the website: www.cattledog.com
Adoption fee is $175.00 to residents of CT, MA and RI only please. You must complete an adoption application which we will e-mail to you upon request, include a current vet reference and you will be required to have a home visit before any adoptions are complete. Please no children under the age of 8 years for this dog and no apartments. You must be 21 years of age to adopt. See our main page for requirements. .

THE MANSFIELD ANIMAL SHELTER NEEDS DONATIONS OF CANNED FOOD.......dry food is great too but please no treats at this time.......there is shortage of canned cat and dog food.

Be sure to check out the LIGHTHOUSE RESTAURANT in Columbia located on Rte 66 before you get to Willimantic. They are now open for lunch and dinners on Thurs, Friday and Saturday! These are great folks that are animal friendly and support our cause....so lets support them.

"RALLY TO RESCUE"
Please check out this great program supporting rescues across the country in gaining awareness to the adoption option of homeless pets from our shelters and rescue organzations. We will be doing several events this year with our new booth and promotional materials supplied by the Rally to Rescue program.
Must fill out application
form completely including a vet reference and phone number (if it
takes us time to research YOUR vets number its slows down your
application process). If you do not have a current vet you
must provide (3) personal references of non-family members. All potential adoptions DO
require a home visit by a member of our respected rescue
community. There are NO exceptions to this rule. If you live on a busy
street that is heavily traveled you will be required to have
conventional fencing of at least 4 ft in height. This means
chain link or stockade type fencing (no invisible fence, stone
walls or post and rail) Please NO children under
the age of 8 years for our young puppies You must be 21 years of age to legally adopt a dog from us since it requires signing a contract.
YOU MUST FILL OUT THE APPLCATION BEFORE VISITING THE ANIMAL OF INTEREST. This process can take up to
two weeks so if you are looking for instant gratification don't
bother filling out an application. We are all volunteers with
"real" jobs, foster dogs, fundraising activities and
family lives. If you are not serious about adopting and are
only window shopping - don't waste a rescue groups' time and we
won't waste yours. Also be courteous and if you have applications
on several puppies in several places please let all parties know
this information as it does make a difference in the decision making process. Who We Are
We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that focuses on
helping the animals at the town municipal pound in Mansfield, CT. We raise
money in efforts of helping the pets at the shelter have a better life
while they are waiting for a new, loving home. Our goal in the future is
to see the shelter improved by rebuilding or renovation.
Adopting A Friend
We also have a very small program of rescue dogs that are
privately fostered by area homes. We have an occasionally pup or two that
is rescued from a kill shelter in another area or state. We have an
adoption process that includes application, interview, vet reference, home
visits and then finally meeting the animal. Otherwise our main focus is to
get the dogs from our local pound into new homes....you can see the
