Who We Are

The Suffield Dog Pound is a municipal shelter that serves the needs of the Town of Suffield's domestic and wild animals. The department handles all animal related calls and complaints from roaming dogs to injured wildlife.

Adopting a friend

If one of our dogs interests you, please call (860)668-3861 and leave a message with your contact information along with the description of the dog that you are interested in. Unfortunately, all of our dogs have limited time with us at the shelter, and each one is in urgent need of rescuing. If you see a dog that interests you, please call us as soon as possible.

Like all the dogs we house at the shelter, we don't have a history of them. As a result, we cannot guarantee the temperament or if the animal will be good around children. Time and appropriate precautions should be taken when adopting any shelter animal. The animals will be excited to be "finally" leaving the shelter. We try and walk them as much as time will permit but they don't get out much. They must be given time and patience to adjust to their new surroundings.

The adoption fee per dog is $50 and includes an Animal Population Control Program (APCP) certificate. The APCP was created by state law in 1992 and implemented on May 22, 1995. The program provides low cost vaccination and sterilization benefits for any unsterilized dog or cat adopted from a Connecticut municipal impound facility. Once a pound pet has been selected a $45 state adoption fee and a $5 municipal fee is collected. An eligible owner will be issued a vaccination/ sterilization voucher, which must be taken with the pet to a participating veterinarian for a health evaluation and to schedule the sterilization procedure. For more information on this program, check out the Department of Agriculture's Website

ALL pets MUST be altered within 60 days of the adoption date in order to receive the benefits. From 1995 until 2000, 25,000 pound pets received benefits through the Connecticut Animal Population Control Program.
