Who We Are

The Plainfield Animal Control Department is a municipal Animal Shelter( Dog Pound). The shelter is small and on average, we process 100 dogs per year. Our average adoption rate is well over 90%. The Animal Control Officer and the Assistant Animal Control Officers are responsible for enforcing all Connecticut animal control laws. The Animal Control Officer visits the elementary and middle schools yearly to speaking on a variety of topics. We offer a yearly rabies clinic sponsored by the Connecticut Municipal Animal Control Officer's Association,Plainfield Vet Hospital and the Plainfield Town Clerk. Our primary goals are to educate the public, enforce all animal related laws, reunite lost pets with their owners , find loving homes for the dogs that are not claimed buy their owners or given up by their owners and to maintain a clean and healthy environment at the shelter.

Adoption Policy

All non sterilized animals are adopted through the Animal Population Control Program. The adopter pays $45.00 APCP fee at the time of adoption and a $5.00 adoption fee to the town for a total of $50.00. The adopter then takes the animal to a participating vet within 60 days of ownership to be spayed/neutered and vaccinations .The Program pays up to $50.00 male cat, $ 70.00 female cat ,$100.00 Male dog and $120.00 female dog toward spay/neuter and $10.00 each for two vaccinations( Parvo-Distemper and Rabies) . The adopter will be responsable for any and all fees above and beyond what the program covers. In the event that the animal is already spayed or neutered, it is a $5.00 non-refundable adoption fee. Out of state adopters do not participate in the APCP program. For more information on our adoption policy, please contact us by email or by phone.

Donations

All types of donations are appreciated. Types of items needed: dry dog food, canned dog food, treats, toys, towels, dog collars, dog leashes and blankets.

             Saturday 9:00am-12:00pm
             Closed  Sunday  & Holidays

Directions:

From North: Take Route 395 South to exit 89. At end of exit ramp take a right. Go to stop light, turn left onto Route 12. Go approximately one mile along route 12, then take left onto Plainfield Road (large cemetary will be on your left). If you see NAPA Store you have gone past the turn. Turn left onto Unity Drive which will be right before the overpass. Follow road toward left around large garage, Dog Pound is left of garage.

From South: Take Route 395 North to exit 88. At end of exit ramp go straight across onto Starkweather Road. Follow to second stop sign and turn left. Follow road until you have gone under the overpass. Turn right immediately after overpass onto Unity Drive. Follow road toward left around large garage, Dog Pound is left of garage.
