Our Featured Pet...
Holiday
She is a tall, good-looking brown jennet who stands at almost 13 hands. Holiday arrived at Longhopes more than two years ago with bad hooves and a frightened temperment. All that has changed. She is now a gentle, affectionate jennet.
Holiday is a special needs donkey who would prefer to be adopted as a pasture pet with another jennet at Longhopes.

Who We Are
Our Shelter, located in Bennett, Colorado, is a non-profit 501(c)(3)organization dedicated to the rescue, shelter, rehabilitation, and adoption of standard donkeys. Our goal is to provide permanent homes for donkeys that would otherwise be neglected, abused, or sold for slaughter. When a donkey arrives it is evaluated for physical and emotional health. After a period of adjustment and observation, healthy donkeys are available for adoption. Physically neglected donkeys are kept longer and those that are unsuitable for adoption due to age or illness will have a permanent home at the Shelter.
To reduce the number of homeless donkeys, we do not allow our donkeys to breed. Nor do we allow any jennet to be adopted for breeding. All jacks are castrated before leaving the Shelter. Applicants wanting a foal should consider adopting a weanling from the Bureau of Land Management. They also have many jennet donkeys for adoption that are in foal.
We accept donated donkeys from owners who wish to relinquish ownership for various reasons, such as the owner can no longer provide adequate care, or the owner is moving and can not take the donkey, etc. We ask for donations to defray the costs of caring for the donkeys. However, some of the donkeys are healthy and ready for immediate adoption.
In addition, many of the donkeys come to us from difficult circumstances. We believe that their next home should be a safe, peaceful environment that would include a lot of attention. We also believe donkeys are much happier and well adjusted when living with another of their own kind. Therefore, with rare exception, we only adopt donkeys in pairs (unless the adopter already has a donkey).
Since that time, the Shelter has been accredited by the American Sanctuary Association has .
